I didn't want to tell a lot of people that I tried out for Jeopardy. But then of course, when it happened, I was excited about it and told people at work, and mentioned it on Facebook. In the past 2 days at work, 2 people have asked if I've heard anything from Jeopardy yet. Thousands of people try out, but only a few hundred actually get to be on the show, so the chances that I actually get called are slim to begin with. But even if I do, it could be anytime in the next, I've heard anywhere from one year to 18 months. I don't think taping for the next season will even start for a few more months. That's exactly why I didn't want to tell people about Jeopardy- I don't want to constantly have to explain that every time someone asks if I've heard anything yet. I'd almost rather just forget I tried out, and then, if by some great stroke of luck, they did call, it would be an awesome surprise, instead of spending the next year like Rosie Perez's character in White Men Can't Jump- "I gotta be ready for when Jeopardy calls!"
I have been active as a lender on
Kiva.org for over a year. Right now I have 7 active loans, and 5 fully re-paid loans, but one delinquent loan. It looks like I might have my first defaulted loan if she doesn't make a payment soon. She only had one payment left, so out of the $25 I contributed to her loan, I'd already gotten $22.22 paid back. Luckily Kiva changed the way they credit loan payments, because under the old system I would be out the whole $25. But I wonder what happened to Altagracia in the Dominican Republic that she wasn't able to make just one last payment.
I did a little routine maintenance on the LJ friends list. I deleted a few journals that didn't have me listed as a friend, and friended one journal that had me as a friend, but I didn't have friended back.
