Today was a great day. I was off from work for the MLK Holiday, which I observed by watching CNN's broadcast of the "I have a dream" speech, which was really cool. And now I am listening to U2's The Unforgettable Fire album, as it has a few songs that reference Dr. King.
I got up at 8:30 and started a chili to put in the crock pot. I did laundry, and caught up with some shows on the DVR, including the Lost season finale. It was on last Wednesday, but there was other stuff on that we wanted to watch, so I recorded it to watch over the weekend. I totally forgot about it until last night. So now I am ready for this Wednesday's premier!
I also baked a loaf of beer bread to go along with the chili. When we ate the chili, we decided it was a little spicy. I don't really use a recipe, I just throw stuff into the crock pot. Tomorrow we'll have leftovers and try serving it over pasta to soak up some of the heat.
Then we watched last night's episodes of Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters, which we had to DVR because we watched Big Love (whoo!) and then the final half hour of Game 4 of the 2007 World Series...LOL. We were all excited for the part at the end where Veritek leaps up into Papelbon's arms, and were kind of disappointed to realize that, on the original Fox broadcast, someone walked in front of the camera at that exact moment, but they showed it again from other camera angles.
It's supposedly going to snow tomorrow. Work could be closed. On one hand, I would love a snow day, especially tomorrow, so I could stay home and watch the inauguration. But on the other hand, tomorrow's sort of an inconvenient day, work-wise, to have one. There's a payment due in one class, and we're holding a class tomorrow that's the first day of a 2-day class, so it will be a pain-in-the-ass to re-schedule. Plus, even though it would be announced on TV, the internet, etc that the university is closed, people sometimes forget that we are part of the university, so folks would be trying to call our office to make their payments and getting pissed when we don't answer, and also possibly showing up for class and being pissed if there isn't class. We haven't had very many problem weather days in the last few years, maybe one per year that I've worked there, and they have always been a day after a normal business day, so we have time to prepare, make back-up plans, even start calling people if possible regarding cancellations. So, having a snow day the day after a 3-day weekend would most likely end up being more trouble than it's worth.
So...there may or may not be snow tomorrow...I may or may not go to work...but we WILL have a new President!

And may your dreams be realized.
If the thundercloud passes rain
So let it rain, let it rain, rain on him"
