My worst day? Ever? Wow that’s a tall order! When I first arrived in the delta quadrant I would have argued that my worst day ever would have been the day I got stranded here, with a Starfleet crew, Starfleet regulations and an uppity high and mighty captain who had us join her crew by necessity - not by choice.
However, over the last seven years things have changed a lot, and at the moment I cant quite pinpoint my worst day ever, but a pretty bad one, would have to be the day I was trapped on a mailon freighter. The freighter was on the verge of exploding and sending toxic waste across space, so me being the wonderful accommodating half Klingon engineer I am I volunteered to try and fix it. The mailon had a kind of urban legend about a “ghost” in the core room. Turned out that the “ghost” wasn’t really a ghost but core labourers who had been mutilated by radiation exposure. It as the most trying day of my life.
My temper had been getting a little out of control and the Captain and Chakotay mutually decided - without my consent might I add, that I should attend meditations with Tuvok to try and reign it in. I had started to get a hold on my temper and control my angry impulses when it turned out that I was stuck in the engine room of the mailon freighter with one of the mutilated crewmembers and had to defend myself. My blood was boiling under my skin and I nearly killed him. It took all of my inner strength not to kill him and for a split second I thought it was kill or be killed, it made me realise that I did have an anger management problem, that I needed to learn to be less hostile and control myself. It was a bit of a wake up call and came as a slap in the face; I didn’t think that it was me that had the problem I thought it was everyone else that had the problem.
To my surprise and shame it wasn’t. And it took a life or death situation, a few thousand tonnes of toxic waste and a radiated alien trying to kill me before I realised it!
