2+2=4

OMG I HAVE THE SMARTEST NEPHEW IN THE WORLD!

Also, the most adorable, but he shares that with his brother and two cousins. ::G::

Okay, and maybe Clay will one day have to defend his Smartest Nephew In The World title, but for this house tonight? I AM SO FRIGG'N PROUD!

Clay is 5, turns 6 at the very end of next month, and has started school. His birth mother used meth daily durring all of her pregnancies, including both Clay and Brian's. Both have some behaivoral problems, especialy Clay, he's already been kicked out of at least one school and a class or two (at the age of less then six, so pre-school until last year) and daycare because of it, even though compared to other Meth babies, they are MUCH better then expected. They're manigable, but get frustrated and angry easily. And as with all Meth babies, there was always this fear that, despiet how incredibly smart they are, they would develop seroius learning dissabilites.

Tonight, Clay and I sat down, and he wrote his name for me. And knew all the letters. And then he wrote out that 5 5 10 and told me that Five plus Five equils Ten. And then when I showed him two ways to write that out (verticaly, and 5+5=10), Clay looked at the second way, and then wrote out 2+2=4!!

Yes, his 2's looked like S's, and his 4 was backwards, but he wrote the formula correctly on the first try, totaly without prompting! I WAS SO FRIGG'N PROUD OF HIM!! I didn't have the heart to correct his 4, I just gave him a huge hug.

He then also proudly told me that he knew that Zero plus Zero was Zero, like it was the funniest joke in the world. I then explained to him how mulitpuls worked, and he sorta got that. It was a little advanced, but he got up and watched me write out how multiplication works and studdied it very carefuly! \o/

You guys gotta understand, I'm dyslexic. The thought that Clay is so young, and picking up what still is a struggle for me? Despite his age, despite his genetics and the meth and all that crap?? I know he's adopted, so my genetic tendancy towards dyslexia dosn't apply, but still, that's not a fear you get over with kids, same way as I'll watch them both carefuly for signs of alcholal/drug abuse, or easily injured spines, or migranes.

He's READING. And he's WRITING! And he's FIVE! And I am just the proudest auntie EVER right now!

We finished off the night by reading two books, and I taught the boys how Glow In The Dark Paint works, and the whole time, all Clay wanted to do was curl up in my lap and cuddle. Awwww!

And next week? We start reading CHAPTER BOOKS!

SO PROUD! ♥ ♥ ♥
