Gustav Aftermath

Well, we were finally allowed to return back home yesterday. It felt so good to sleep in my bed after a week on a hard floor.

We were lucky enough to avoid the flooding in our area due to our home being 26 inches off the ground and completely sealed/boarded up however we need to crawl into the attic and check for water damage. We were also fortunate to only have minor damage to our house - some siding ripped up and tons of shingles ripped off.

Now, our only concern is food. We were without power for a week, which in all actuality isn't that bad, but the stores are completely bare from both the hurricane prep and the loss of parishables from the outages that effected our area. The Convoy of Hope and National Guard had a distribution site set up here but we arrived a few hours too late.

I filled out the contact form on their website, inquiring about additional sites we (those of us who came too late and are without food) could go to. Hopefully, they will contact me or set up another site.

We lost pretty much everything in the fridge, except the soy sauce and a few other condiments that don't require it. Atleast we were able to return a few days sooner than they had predicted. If I would've had to sleep on the floor until the 10th or longer, I might've killed someone. lol

Well, time to head to sleep so I can go chop up some trees that fell and pick up limbs and debris.
