Summer's almost over. I'm so glad. I really enjoy my internship, and it has been such a learning experience, and everyone is very nice, but I miss school. And I miss being around people who talk about things I talk about. The other interns....Elise and Adam are nice. And the redhead whose name I can never remember but who loves books. Sarah? But the rest are so standoffish and cliquey. Which I understand, having heard how mean people in their schools are. I'd not be eager to make friends with strangers either coming from that environment. But it doesn't make them pleasant to be around.
I can't wait to go HOME. And talk to my lovely chattable socialworker people at Discovery who always want to chat. About things that are real, not trashy tv. And see Vey. And watch movies with my family. And I can't wait for school to start, my lovely school full of nice friendly people who are not snobby and standoffish, with incredulous faces when I announce that I do not go to a top ten lawschool, but helpful and kind, and willing to explain things and share notes (which apparently is not what happens at the "good" schools). With the lovely interested and friendly teachers (Also apparently lacking at good schools), and the comfy chairs by windows with beautiful views. I want to curl up in my chair in the corner (mine by recognition and adverse possession, though last year it took the 1Ls a little while to catch on) with a textbook, a notebook and knitting, and read while snow flurries outside the window onto trees of pine, and students and teachers stop to chat as they walk down the hallway.
I'm so excited for trial practice class, and externing with the public defenders office, and taking all these exciting and fun classes! I want to catch prof. Dunlap and talk to him about laws of war in the context of cyberwarfare, and talk to the nice librarian and prof. mrsmeyer about philosophy. I want to argue with Margulies about his opinion of the South, and pester prof mrmeyer about crim pro, which is the COOLEST THING EVER. And take Krauss for the other crim pro, even though he never gives higher than a B, and translate prof. schroeder to the 1Ls. And dress up and get teacher to talk like pirates, and throw beads at everyone for mardi gras, and prank prof. mrmeyer for april fools (prof mrsmeyer gave us carte blanche to do whatever we want to him, and last year we couldn't because he was being...well whatever happens for him to get tenure was happening in his class that day, with MJ, and after class he was being interviewed by the news). I want to have a lengthy discussion of how we think second amendment jurisprudence is going to turn out now, and I want to have lunches with Shivani and lowell and tom, and dinners with elana, and play on the ps3 which is apparently going to occupy the law review office. My point is this: I CAN"T WAIT FOR SCHOOL TO START!
I know I will soon be moaning about no sleep and no free time, but the truth is, I really do love my school.
