Why you should read it: I'm breaking the rules here--this is not a Torchwood fic, but it is a Martha fic, and it is both the single most stunning Martha and the single most stunning Tenth Doctor I've ever come across, and well deserving of the "erudite" tag. It conveys the glory and fun and majesty and horror Martha encounters, but more amazingly, it manages to capture the madness and breadth and depth of damage that The Doctor has both suffered and suffers upon his Companions. It's written with Martha but substitute any of the New Who companions (save possibly Rose) and it would work just as well.
Writers, take note--if you're trying to write either Ten or Martha, and having difficulties with it, this is a great example.
