Summary: They are all dead around Jack and he doesn't want to believe it, doesn't want to see everyone he cared about dead again. He has so many good memories of the team from 1999.
Why you should read it: The marvelous characterizations in this story, especially Jack's, make for a compelling read. Knowing what their fate will be, we are introduced to Jack's last team before the beginning of the series. In this story, Jack seems much happier and more at ease than we've ever seen him in the series. It's obvious that he and the others are friends and the simple interactions between them are both wonderful and poignant. At the end we feel Jack's pain and have a better understanding of his personality during the series.
