So Navajo asked me a few weeks ago if I'd do a con badge for him so that he'd have it for AC this weekend.
I took my sweet-ass time finally got to drawing it on Satuday, inked it Sunday and ran out of time to hand-color it because I knew that if I wanted to make sure it got to him before he left on Wednesday, I'd have to get it into the mail before the end of the day Monday. So I took it to work and vectorized the lineart in CorelDraw and digitaly colored it. This also made it easy to print out on the plastic card the badge would be made up of too. I was out of touch with him during the day, so I just had to sort of trust myself on the choices of things and sent it off...
So once I got home I figured I'd color it anyways and send that off to him at my leisure. My intent was to try to preserve the same idea with the name badge but in the real-media. that didn't quite happen, as you can see here. Oh, well. I may still work this out into a standard badge-size at some point, but for now it's not too bad and I'll send him the original art soon.
I had originally intended to go light with the colored pencils and work my way up with layers... but my first layers used warm grays instead of cool grays and I didn't realize until I was looking at the brown face. :( So I had to go heavy over everything to make him gray instead of brown. Oh, well.
I still have a LOOOOONG way to go with my techniques and styles.
