I fell in love with Harlem this past weekend. I know it's not the safest place in the world... but it has its own charm. My friend Matt's apartment building was so cool, it was like Classic New York... marble floors and gold trimmed staircases and wall fixtures. There were black old men sitting on benches in the mid-afternoon sun, cornerstore merchants singing in their native tongues, and people drinking Corona's on their fire escapes. Maybe one day I'll live there too. I do want to live in the city someday, so it's possible. The only thing about Manhattan is that I never feel like I'm truly outside. It's totally psychological but whatever I need grass.

When I returned from Harlem on Saturday Chris was gone. He didn't even say goodbye... just took all his stuff to his new apartment. Ecker is almost all packed as well and on Wednesday, when we drive home together, he will be saying goodbye to Hofstra, just as so many of our friends already have. I'm sad to see a friend go, but I'm happy my suitemates are leaving. James and I were discussing how we used to think living with Ecker and Chris was going to be so much fun because of how they seemed last year... but they turned out to be Debbie Downers for the most part. I think they had already decided they were leaving before they even got here.
Looking into the semi empty room of 1428 A, I can't help but wonder who will be my next suitemates. I hope they put someone good in there, someone really fun, James and I deserve it. Maybe they will become my good friends... maybe they'll be drug dealers again... all I can do is hope for the best and pray.

I got a job lined up for next semester, I'm going to be Bartending at a sports bar called Central Ales!!! I'm so excited! It's not the nicest bar in the world but after I have the experience, I can work at better bars. Plus I'll be loaded! I didn't really have an interview... I kinda just stood there and made small talk with the owner for an hour while he mopped the floor and made crude comments to a female bartender. Then he asked me if I had lots of friends that I would bring to the bar as customers... then he told me I seemed like a good kid and that I could start after winter break. Hahahaha I'm so excited. If its anything like O'Flags, it should be a good time.
