About a month ago, a weekday night around 11:00pm, Sara and I were going to sleep when we heard the neighbors fighting. It sounded like two women and it sounded totally vicious. We couldn't see the fight.
I called 911 and sat on hold for eleven minutes while the fight progressed. 911 disconnected me. I figured, they would check the call log and come by, or something. By then, the fight had ended and I wanted to go to sleep.
I turns out that it was the two neighbor boys (brothers) going at it. The older one threw a can of harispray at the younger one and gave him a gash on the head that started to bleed. We'd heard the reaction to the head wound.
It's probably a good thing that the cops didn't come. The mom took the kid to the hospital to get stitches, but the cops would have had the ambulance do it, and the single mom would have gotten stuck with the bill (which I hear is sizable).
But it sucks, that I have, effectively, no 911 service. I was on hold for 11 minutes, and even after I was disconnected, nobody checked the call log and bothered to drop by and see if everything was alright.
