From Midnight last night squatting is no longer legal in the Netherlands. There are reportedly over 200 squats in the country and closing them all will make possibly over 400 people homeless.
Last night they took to the streets of Amsterdam to protest the new rule.
Things get violent around the 2 minute mark, which just happens to be taking place directly outside the store where I work.
I don't agree with squatting and I couldn't give a shit that they will all be homeless. Maybe I would have been a little sympathetic before they took to the streets and trashed everything. I agree that everyone has the right to housing and I cannot deny that here in Amsterdam there is a big housing shortage. However, destroying other people's property and burning down the city where I live will not win you brownie points.
Looks like y'all are just going to have to get a job and start paying rent like the rest of society, don't like the sound of it? There's the border, don't let the Dyke's hit you in the ass on the way out!
