The problem with the first Spider-man movie was that it was burdened with telling Spider-man’s creation story, leaving less room for a super villain. Spider-man 2 was free of that burden, and only had to worry about the creation and resolution of Doctor Octopus, and Spider-man's unrequited feelings for Mary Jane.
