The problem with disseminating technology is you get what you put into developing technology. If corporations were to back and develop technology that would help us explore and develop the solar system then we would undoubtedly be buying bottled water fresh from the Asteroid belt and taking our holidays on Mars. If the corporations were to back and develop technology that would help us eradicate pollution, develop safe energy then others would take up those developments and turn the Earth into a veritable garden. If, however, corporations back and develop military technology that is what we get....

It is not likely that you can develop a military technology, use it against the people you would least want to get hold of it and they will never how to develop it themselves.
