If you climb to the top of a Buddhist temple and a little Buddhist monk puts a string around your wrist... DO NOT CUT IT OFF!
As most of you know my husbear,
mafuta67 went on a trip around the world visiting various countries to learn about gender fluidity.... that was all fine and dandy, except he had to go and get a tattoo in Thailand, which got infected. In New York he came down with a bout of viral meningitis, and those of you who have been paying attention will know that he usually ends up in hospital for at least a month. When he got to the Napa Valley, he fell over in the bath and broke a rib or two... we are not sure yet. He got an ear infection in LA. When he got to Samoa suffered severe depression due to all of the above and loneliness....
The trick is, if you have someone you can travel with.... travel with them..... Doing it on your own is no fun.... for either of you....
I was safely tucked away in the quiet little town of Gawler, which just happens to be the gateway to the Barossa Valley.... for those of you who don’t know, it is the South Australian equivalent of the Napa Valley... and even though I was surrounded by family I was as lonely as if I was living in a glass box.
I really did not know how much I needed Matthew for not only love and affection, but support and recognition. The people I was with were nice, but they were not accustomed to having someone as flamboyant as me in their house.... I was constantly reminded that I talk too much, dress funny and have strange eating habits.... all of which are taken for granted and even embraced by my husbear.
I felt alone and discombobulated most of the time.... I fretted terribly for Matthew and found myself crying when those soppy love songs where on the radio. Songs like “I’ll be home for Christmas”....
Since we got home, Matthew and I have had the most wonderful week, we have just spent as much time as possible in each others company and undoing all the damage that was done while we were apart....
Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed my time in South Australia... catching up with family, drinking nice wine, behaving like a tourist, taking a gruelling 8 hour each way train trip to Melbourne, visiting dear friends, drinking cider, seeing the pandas... making my nieces wedding dress.... watching her house being built.... all that stuff..... but, I would have traded it all to be at home with my husbear....
We have made a vow to each other..... “Never travel without each other.... ever”
When you go to all the trouble of finding a partner who is perfect, there is absolutely no reason why you have to voluntarily be without them..... Within reason..... But I think you know what I mean....
We are off to Adelaide, this week, for a conference and then we are coming home via Melbourne.... it is not as exotic as Thailand, India or Samoa.... or as fantastic as New York or San Francisco..... But we will be together.... and that will make it perfect!
