EVE Online.

I tried EVE Online ages ago during its beta; the graphics were orgasm-inducing, but the gameplay was so...amorphous, almost theoretical and the universe so truly vast that I'm not sure if I ever saw a single player other than myself exploring the black, immeasurable void.  When the beta ended, I didn't subscribe because I thought the game still needed some work on the content front.

But...I recently picked up a free trial from a banner at Penny Arcade, so I'm giving it another swing.

The rather steep learning curve is still present (for navigation and ship-outfitting, specifically), but it seems to confound me less this time around for some reason.  I'm enjoying warping to this space station, that asteroid and the other solar system, running missions and mining occasionally.

Creating characters in this game is still absurdly fun.  I think they use Poser technology or something, which allowed me to come up with these fine people:

Merchant, fighter and scientist, respectively.  Yes, the fruity-looking pigtailed guy is the tough one of the bunch.  X)  Click 'em for bigger versions!

And I'm off to play a little more...
