James, shopping, school...and procrastination!

James is seriously the cutest one year old I know!!! *huggles*
Pictures may be forthcoming, assuming I can find that pesky USB transfer cord. *grumbles*
I misplaced it once before, and finally gave up and bought a second one ... only to find the first one again shortly thereafter. Now both of them are missing. Then again, a lot of little stuff has gome missing since the move -- Dad's stapler, Mom's hairdryer, a bunch of bathroom stuff, 2 pairs of my jeans ... the cords are just added to that 'where da heck did THAT go???' list. Sigh... I may have to break down and purchase yet another one. Hmmmm.

Dad and I had fun shopping for James' bday gifts. He really likes tactile books, so I suggested picking up one or two of those - the problem is where, especially on a Sunday afternoon, right? I mean, we had to stay local... back in England I'd know exactly where to go. Heck, in Ktown I'd know exactly where to go ... but in Cambridge? Hmmmm.... so we pick up a card (which ended up being Kate's second choice, and the one that Kate got him was our second choice - yay for not duplicating!!!), and started driving out Hespeler Road towards Staples (to buy a new stapler, ironically enough =P) when I remembered that there's a relatively new store in the mall, right by the back entrance, that's geared towards kids, so we turned around and stopped in there. I walked in and asked the fellow for tactile books - it was SO nice when he knew immediately what the heck those were! LOL So as we're grabbing the books, he also points out a Sesame Street book and comments that I might remember it from my childhood. It's starring Grover, and called 'Monster at the End of This Book' ... I didn't remember it straight away, but by the second page the memories of Dad reading this to me over and over again with the Cookie Monster voice were flooding back -- we had to buy James a copy too. Funnily enough, when John (the dad) was opening the presents, it was that book which was the big hit - John, Kate, Shelley and I all had it as kids ourselves, and all our parents remembered reading it to us. Over and over and over again. I have a feeling James'll have it memorised soon too! *winks*

BTW: you know what kind of odd looks you get in a store called Staples, when you have to ask for help in locating ... staples? Yup, I've now been there, done that. LOL

School. Right.
Well, have hit a bit of a block with the coursework again. Not good.
Also I really need to ask for reference letters from my schools back in England, and I'm kinda apprehensive about doing so. Well asking Andrew isn't too bad, except that I haven't spoken to him since a text at New Year's ... but Ashton might prove a different challenge. I chatted with Nicki a while back, and bounced the idea off her - she agreed that I should ask a couple of people, and we concurred on who those people ideally would be. The reason I'm a tad apprehensive of this whole thing is that in England it's customary to get a letter of reference from your Head, whereas here in Ontario, a letter from your principal is nice, but they'd really much prefer letters from your head of department or mentor, etc - the ones with whom you had direct daily contact. So from the local perspective, sending the email to Nicky, Mir, and Lesley makes sense, but from their perspective, really I should JUST be sending the request directly to Nick. (For those of you unfamiliar with the staff, there was a Nick, a Nicky, a Nicki, another Nicki, and a Nikki all on staff at the same time. Popular name, eh? =D) Anyways, I want to maximize my chances at getting at least one good reference letter that will be applicable for applications over here, but I also very much do not want to alienate and/or inadvertently annoy anyone over there either. So I've been putting the request off, hoping inspiration would hit ... and now they're on their 2-week Easter holidays. Sigh. Stupid procrastinating ames =(

Any other news? Hmmm....
Mom is sick, so she's cranky and moody. Always good times to be had there.
Mom is also scheduled for surgery next Monday. Eeep.
I'm due to see the hip specialist on Thursday. I'm not sure what good it'll do, but it's nice that after almost 3 decades, the medical professionals are actually taking notice of my tendency to have my hips attempt to displace themselves while I walk. (Yes, that is both as aggravating as, and only slightly less painful than, it sounds!)
The weather is starting to get very nice again, so I'll be getting back into walking/running very soon, which'll be good, b/c the whole trying on 6 pairs of jeans to find one that fit (my two that did fit nicely have gone missing, see above!) really, really sucked yesterday.
And....I'm procrastinating with the help of my talented cats once again. Whoops? LOL
So -- it's off to work I go, I go! *whistles*

ramblings, school, james, update
