What a week.

It has been a hell of a week indeed.

Saturday, a friend from highschool who had Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy, had a heart attack and passed away. I attended his funeral service on Wednesday, and amongst the tears there was laughter. Ian Glasgow was only 20 years old, but he touched so many people in his short life. During a brief period where people were invited to get up to speak about Ian, I decided to tell an anecdote about the kind of humor he posessed, it went something like this:

"Hi, my name is Brittany Spurrier and I went to highschool with Ian. Of the many accomplishments that were listed about him, one thing was left out - Chemathon. We were both on the Chemathon team our junior year. At the time there was a popular website going around, homestarrunner.com, and on that website there is a comic called "Teen Girl Squad." That year, we decided that we were going to be "Team Chem Squad" and come up with amusing names. The names of the characters in the comic are things like "What's her Face", "So and So" and the "Ugly One". Each of us decided to come up with our own name. While several of us came up with our names relatively quickly, Ian wanted his to be JUST right. So he thought. And thought. And thought some more... until finally he came up with the perfect name, he was going to be "The Pensive One." That just goes to show his sense of humor and his ability to laugh in all situations, even if it was at himself. That's what I remember most about Ian."

The mourners laughed and chuckled at my story, and all the stories that everyone got up to share. It was probably the most... joyous funeral - because there were only things to celebrate about him. After the service, I spoke with his father, and his father said that he was so happy that I got up and spoke about Chemathon, and that at the end of my speech he had wanted to yell out "And you guys won, too!" It was really heart-warming that I could stir such a proud feeling in a father at his son's funeral.

Unfortunately for one person, the news about Ian's passing came too late. I was curious as to why I didn't see my friend AJ at the funeral. I figured it was because he's in the Air Force and perhaps couldn't get leave. AJ and Ian were incredibly close friends in highschool.
I sent him a message yesterday on myspace, asking how he was doing in the wake of Ian's passing, and that if he ever wanted to talk - give me a call.
I received a response from him today. He had not been informed of Ian's passing at all. How could Ian's entire family forget to inform AJ? His sister DATED AJ for a brief period - and I would think she would at least recognize that perhaps a written message on a Facebook wall isn't the best way to contact someone in the Air Force.
I am really upset about this, because AJ would have paid his respects to one of his closest highschool friends, but he didn't even get the chance.
It tears me up inside to think about it.

Beyond that tragedy, I've been having a hell of a time getting on a normal sleeping schedule. The guy that I'm sort of seeing is a workaholic, and doesn't usually get off work until 10. So we usually just chill at his house afterward. I've been coming home at 3 or 4 in the morning. It's starting to piss my mom off. I understand her concern, but I check in with her and let her know where I am. She just says it's "scandalous" or something.
I'm 20 years old, for crying out loud! I'm not 15.

Anyway - I'm still waiting to hear back from ANY of the places I applied. Once I get a job, I'll HAVE to start leading a normal life - but I figure, while I've got the free time, how else should I be spending it? I applied to 7 or 8 places at this point - do I really need to double it? Most places take about the same amount of time to get back to you, so I figure I'd just have to wait longer for more jobs to call me back if I applied for them.
Aaaaanyway.
Just thought I'd let y'all know what's up.
