So there I was in my bath earlier, scrubbing at my hair, when I swooped up a handful of shampoo suds to clean my ear jewelry with (they're silver hallow 2g tunnels with a star at one end). I usually just twist the tunnels a few times and push them back and forth to make sure that they're clean. Well, the left one popped out and landed in the tub, which does happen, but rarely.

I was excited for the opportunity to clean them (since they have flared ends, I can't take them out easily) and worked it with more suds, when I got it in my mind that pushing a q-tip in there would be a good way to get the suds thoroughly throughout. I pushed one in, turned it a few times, and pulled it out to see grayish discolouration at the end - not unexpected, but still gross. What I didn't expect was the layer of gray gunk that squeezed out around the star corners at the end - probably a little less than a 1/4 inch worth. I was thoroughly disgusted and made sure to clean it out well, following with the other one - no matter how bad it hurt to get the other one out and pop them both back in, I wasn't about to leave it in there knowing what I now knew.

I've had this ear jewelry for at least three or four years now, and I've never once done this. I don't know why I never realized that it could get so gross in there. Now I know!

why god why, grime
