Mead always reminds me of American Gods. I love the way Gaiman describes the flavour - it's not supposed to be appealing, but I still find myself wanting to taste it. As a Scandinavian Studies major, I feel like I'm missing out on an important element of cultural history, if you will.
Shame about throwing it up though, especially with sushi
Mead is a very interesting drink. It's not great tasting, but it can be very strong, so you sip it, and the next thing you know you're passing it around and taking LOTS of sips and then you can't stand up anymore.
And I had digested a fair amount of the sushi before the vomiting. So I didn't feel too bad.
Yeah, the strength is also referred to in the novel, and that the taste is (unfortunately) enhanced when the drink is chilled. And I still envy you for having it (although not so much the being sick afterwards).
The real shame (for me) is not so much the nastiness of vomiting (although of course it's not exactly pleasant), but that you vomited up delicious sushi. My cravings are so bad right now that even the mention of hurling sushi doesn't put me off it *freak*
