It was a Friday. He had just passed the mark of three weeks since the incident. And three days since he’d even seen Reid… There was only a week left before Christmas and, for the first time in his life, Luke Snyder was not excited. At all.
His parents were arguing on how to divide the time with their kids for the holidays. And both wanted Christmas morning. And both refused to spend it together.
Luke slammed his locker shut. He was too tired to be dealing with his parents’ problems. He was already losing sleep over Reid, and he was on the brink of not functioning anymore. Thank God Christmas Break was coming up, so at least he could sleep in in the mornings.
“So I was thinking Gears of War tonight? Mom’s doing a double shift, so she’s not going to be home until like Saturday evening or something! House to ourselves, dude!” Reg wiggled his eyebrows, grinning like a mad man. “Like, I would have a party, but after the last time Mom has asked the neighbor to keep an eye on the house, so I’m screwed in that department. But we can still have fun! Order pizzas, play all night, and drink tons and tons of Red Bull?” He was practically bouncing up and down in excitement.
“You’ve clearly already started with the Red Bull.” Luke rolled his eyes with a smile. “Yeah sure, sounds great. Are Casey and Maddie coming as well?”
“No, Casey’s forced to this huge dinner party with his entire family, and Maddie hates to admit that she loves these games.” Reg chuckled. “Awesome, so why don’t you-“ He stopped, frowning in confusion.
Luke tilted his head slightly. “What’s wrong?”
Then he knew what was wrong. A couple of arms wrapped themselves around him from behind, and a chin came to rest on his shoulder. Luke immediately tensed up, but couldn’t help but to close his eyes and lean slightly back into the warm body.
He felt the warm breath on his ear. “Hey.”
He couldn’t even speak, just nodded slightly.
Lips against his neck. “It’s just me. Why so tense?”
“Why do you think?” Reg snapped, making Luke open his eyes again. Reg looked pissed, arms crossed tightly across his chest.
“What crawled up your ass and died?” Reid chuckled surprised, but kept his arms around Luke.
Before Reg could explode in a rant, Luke pulled away from Reid and sent Reg a look. “I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
Reg glared back and forth between the two boys before shaking his head slightly. “Fine…” He turned and stomped down the hall.
Luke turned to Reid whose eyes were following Reg with a surprised smirk.
“What the hell is his problem?”
“You are, actually…” Luke stuck his hands down in his pocket.
“What did I ever do to him?” Reid frowned in confusion.
“Not him. Me.” Luke said quietly, struggling to keep himself from bowing his head down. He watched as Reid’s face contorted in even more confusion and as he took a step closer.
“You? I didn’t… What?”
He put his hands up in defense, stopping Reid from getting any closer. “You didn’t do anything, Reid… That’s exactly it… I mean, you could’ve just broken things off with me if you’d wanted to. Not that we have a relationship or something, but, I mean… We… I know things got messed up, and it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have come over that night. You told me Angus was home, and we shouldn’t have taken that chance. And I should have known that my parents would’ve followed me, since I basically told them where I was going.” Luke rambled, trying his hardest to keep his feelings at bay.
Reid gaped, eyes wide in confusion. “Woah woah woah…. Luke, what… You know that I don’t blame you for anything that happened that night!”
“How could I know that? You’ve been ignoring me for weeks, and when I do see you, you won’t talk to me. And it’s fine. It’s completely fine, I mean… I’m nothing special, and you’re you and can get whoever you want. And you should too; I mean… you deserve the best… I just wish you would’ve told me what I did wrong. Because waiting around like this just… it just hurts a lot. I’m not trying to make this about me, I’m not! I know that what happened that night hurt you too, probably more than me, but-“
Reid stepped forward, pressing his hand over Luke’s mouth. “Seriously, what the hell? There are so many things wrong with everything you are saying right now.”
Luke shook his head, pulling Reid’s hand away. “Just stating what’s happened, Reid…”
“Okay, first of all; I haven’t been ignoring you. I’ve been busy! Second of all, I do not blame you at all for what happened that night. I told you to come over, I let you inside, and I wanted to jerk you off. We were both being idiots, and yeah, things got bad. But whatever, I don’t want to talk about that. And three, what the hell are you talking about ‘nothing special’?? You have completely lost your mind!”
“Reid-“ Luke tried, but Reid wouldn’t let him get a word out.
“’Nothing special’ my ass!” He shook his head. “Do you really think I’d keep you around if you were nothing special? Don’t be an idiot, Luke; you know you’re more than that. “
“Keep me around?” Luke laughed sarcastically. “If anything, you’ve kept me away from you! I’m not expecting you to be available all the time, but I’ve barely seen you for three weeks! And before that, I saw you every single day. So how am I not supposed to feel like you’re ignoring me?”
People were staring by now, and a crowd began to gather around the two boys. Reid sent them all a deadly glare before grabbing Luke’s arm and pulling him down the hallway. He found an empty classroom and pulled Luke inside.
He paced back and forth between the door and the blackboard a couple of times before turning to Luke with a sigh. “I guess I’ve been a jerk.”
Luke was still standing by the door, arms crossed tightly over his chest. He sighed at Reid’s admission, and shook his head. “No… Maybe a little bit… But you don’t owe me anything. I just… thought I wasn’t alone in all of this.”
“Alone in what?” Reid stepped closer.
“Alone in…”Luke bit his lip, glancing at the floor. “in this. You and me.”
Reid stopped in front of him, grabbing his hand and pulling him closer. “You’re not.”
Luke sighed and let himself be pulled in, so close that their faces were almost touching.
“You’re not.” He repeated. “Maybe I have been avoiding you… It was just easier that way.” The hand that wasn’t gripping Luke’s tightly was gently laying against his cheek, caressing softly.
Luke finally looked up, meeting Reid’s warm, concerned eyes.
“You know I can’t be around you and not touch you…”
“What happened, Reid?”
Sigh. “I’m fine, okay? Can’t you just leave it at that?”
“No. All I can think about is that he hurt you somehow, and I left you there with him.”
Reid chuckled slightly, running his thumb over Luke’s cheek. “You didn’t have much of a choice, kid. Your parents were pulling you out, and my uncle was kicking you out. Besides, I wouldn’t have wanted you to stay.”
“What did he do to you?” Luke whispered.
“Nothing I couldn’t handle.” Reid said simply, gazing around the room before meeting Luke’s eyes again. “Threw my phone at the wall.”
Luke sighed, leaning slightly into Reid’s hand. “You’re never going to tell me?”
“Why dwell on shit? Everything is fine now. So how are things with you? Staying with Daddy at the farm?”
Luke knew he wouldn’t be getting any further with that, so he let it go. He forced out a smile and nodded. “Yeah, I am…”
“Good. I like your dad.” Reid smiled
Luke raised an eyebrow. “Why? You’ve met him once.”
Reid shrugged. “I liked him. He seemed calm and collected. And he was reasonable enough.”
“Yeah, I guess…”
“So, you’re hanging out with that imbecile tonight?” Reid changed the subject again, threading his fingers through Luke’s hair.
“Yeah, I guess… Why?”
“You could come over.” Reid smirked, pulling his face closer. “I haven’t touched you in three weeks… I’m going insane.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“Why, worried we’ll get caught again? No need to be.”
“Why not? Is your uncle out of town again?” Luke put his hands up on Reid’s shoulders, keeping a bit of distance. He was not endangering Reid like that again.
Reid grabbed his hands and pulled them down to rest at his hips. His own hands went to cup Luke’s face. “I have no idea. And I don’t care.”
“Reid…” Luke sighed, resting his forehead against Reid’s. “We can’t.”
“I got my own place.” Reid said triumphantly. “That’s why I’ve been kind of busy. Finding a place, and moving in.”
Luke gasped and took a step back. “You got your own place??”
Reid tilted his head with a smirk. “Why, is that a bad thing?”
“No, no, of course not.”
Reid nodded. “Yeah… because this means that you can come over whenever you like. And I can have my way with you wherever I want, whenever I want, and as loud as I want.”
Luke shuddered. “Okay…”
“Mhm…” Reid smiled and stepped in close again, leaning down to kiss his neck. “Come over tonight.” Kiss. “I’ve missed you.” Kiss. “What do you say?” He slowly kissed his way across his cheek and stopped at the corner of his lips.
Luke rolled his eyes to the back of his skull, and just nodded. “Yeah… yeah, I’ll… I’ll come.”
Reid smirked. “Yeah, you will. Several times.” He pressed his lips harshly against Luke’s for a couple of seconds before pulling back. “I can’t wait.”
Luke slowly opened his eyes, unable to hide the huge smile spreading across his bruised lips. “Me neither…”
Reid nodded happily, pressing another quick kiss to his lips before stepping back. “I’m getting a new phone later, so I’ll text you the address and everything.”
“You’ve got my number?”
Reid tapped his temple. “Remember it. See you later.” A wink, and he was out the door.
