The good news about renting a condo is that we won't have to pay to fix whatever is wrong with our dishwasher. The bad news about renting a condo is that I left a voicemail for our landlord more than 24 hours ago (and emailed him, too, for good measure!) and have not heard a word back from him. His cell phone keeps going straight to voicemail. To say that I'm peeved would be an understatement. Since discovering on Tuesday night that the dishwasher wasn't working, I've done dishes by hand. It is not fun. There's a reason we pay to have a dishwasher. Given our landlord's past inattention and slowness to respond, I may have to wait forever for this to be fixed. Fuck's sake, is this lease up yet?
In happier news, I had a really excellent Mother's Day! Leo got up with Olivia and made cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and the three of us went out to have an early dinner. I had crispy duck and it was so excellent. Afterward, we went to see Leo's parents. His mom is having a hard time resting and keeping still after a knee surgery last week, but a visit from Olivia seemed to do her some good. For a Mother's Day present, Leo bought me a new camera. It's a vast improvement over the old point and shoot I had, but it's also not a DSLR so that I can be a momtographer. It takes really great pictures, so I think after a little practice with the various settings I might have decent photos of Olivia, provided I can get her to sit still!
Looking forward to my mom and dad arriving next week for a visit! They get here on Wednesday, and in the midst of spending time with us, they're going to take a weekend trip to Key West since they've never been. Depending on what happens for Leo job-wise, I'd love to try to make it to Charleston for a visit sometime before Christmas so I can see my sisters and their husbands and kids.
In my time away from the Internet, I've been doing A LOT of reading. I'm up to 27 books read this year. I've figured out that if I basically stay off the Internet, I can read three books a week. Interestingly, the more I stay away, the less I miss it. Reading for pleasure again has been so nice. I've also been putting together Ikea furniture! We finally put away the Pack 'N Play, which meant we could buy actual matching night tables like real grown ups. Our bedroom looks so nice and inviting now! We also decided on another shelf for the living room, and we'll have to go back with MIL's SUV in a couple of weeks for the dresser we want to buy for Olivia.
Okay - time to start soaking another sinkful of dishes and get started on another library book! What's new with y'all?
