A question, for those of you who may be around this weekend: How much do someone's politics/personal beliefs have to diverge from yours before you decide to defriend/unfollow them? How much obnoxious posting about issues on which you disagree does someone have to do before you've had enough and just can't be "friends" anymore? Is one comment or photo or macro enough to make you stop reading someone's LJ or hide their Facebook updates, or are you not quite put off until the angry screeds and re-posts of pictures are an everyday occurrence?
As you all may or may not know, I am very socially liberal, I believe our government has a lot of problems that need fixing, and women's rights and anti-racist issues are very near and dear to my heart. That said, many people with whom I am friends on Facebook (not so much here on LJ) are extremely conservative, and the steady stream of comments, photos, and articles they post are really beginning to grate, to the point that I don't want to see their status updates ever again.
I guess what I'm really asking is, how far is too far? What pushes your buttons enough to filter someone out of your LJ reading list? What will get you to defriend with great prejudice? What does someone have to say to make you hide their status updates? What happens when these people are family? Close friends as opposed to acquaintances or old schoolmates?
moral outrage,
that's debatable,
i hate politics,
soemtimes i ask questions,
flames on the side of my face
