The western monotheistic view of religious morality is "God is everywhere and knows what you're doing, so be good or he'll see you". Friday morning I missed a chance to take a really great picture. Someone hit a dog along the surface streets to my office and it lay dead in the road on the opposite side of the street. This morning a cow-orker and I were talking about this LA Times article about "American Apparel" ads.

I believe they're meant to evoke pornography, sometimes even child pornography. The fact that a) this cannot be proved, and b) you can't say it without sounding like a prudish old biddy, drives me crazy ( Read more... )

A while ago I wrote a glowing review of the Fuji F31fd. It's only 6 megapixels, but the super-sensitive, super-low-noise ISO3200 CCD gives it much better clarity than any higher-resolution camera I've seen. The only real down-sides are the size (a little bulky) and the proprietary xD memory card.

There's a rose bush on our front steps that's been overrun with aphids. This weekend I bought two tubs of ladybugs who I hoped would help control the aphid problem. A while ago I lost my digital camera. I narrowed down my choices to a Canon SD1000 or a Panasonic FX30 when suddenly the Fuji F30 came out of left field in a flurry of recommendations. When I was a kid I was really big into cryptozoology: Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, etc. Also UFOs. Most of the "hard evidence" at the time was poorly exposed 35mm enlargements or grainy 16mm movies. It took a few seconds to set up an exposure and not a lot of people carried 35mm cameras with them.
