So Apple announced their new OS on Monday and I'm a little disappointed because it looks like the two most exciting features have been dropped.

I've seen a few 1080p films on Blu-Ray, and I am generally satisfied with the experience. Resolution is high enough that it's resolving film grain which pleases Harry Nyquist. But in at least a few cases we can do much better.

I'd really like to see films shot in 65mm transferred to Blu-Ray. Actually I'm surprised that this hasn't happened. ( Read more... )

So a while ago Paramount got paid $150 million by some shadowy figure to release only HD-DVD movies for the last year. Somewhat more recently Michael Bay got pissed about this, probably because he gets a percentage of DVD sales and less formats means less disks sold.
