New Mac

Back in November I said that Apple would be releasing Penryn MacBooks at MacWorld. Turns out I was about two months late, possibly because Apple delayed because of the Migetbook. New stuff came out today pretty much as I anticipated but without the rumored case redesign. The new MacBooks have the multitouch trackpad from the Air, and that's ( Read more... )

The new MacBooks have the multitouch trackpad from the Air,

My sources state that the multitouch functionality is a software limitation on existing MacBooks that support the two finger scroll. i.e., My laptop is purposely being crippled for marketing reasons.

That was true back in 2005 when they released the two-finger-scroll powerbooks and you needed iscroll to make them work. Are you sure you're not talking about that?

Nope, mostly because I do not know of SOX. Either my geek isn't big enough or I'm missing a joke or I'm lacking some other knowledge.

Two things:

1) I'm really sorry, but I completely don't get the isyournewbicycle.org thing. I feel like it is either over, under, or to the side of my head.

2) I looked up SOX and super-skimmed the wikipedia entry on it and was left wondering how it had anything to do with the trackpad of a macbook.

I am confused.

Little o, underscore, zero.

Got it.

Just like the wireless upgrade that was hiding in the hardware?

Oh, I have no opinion on it. Like I said, I did a quick skim and couldn't find the connection. From my skim it sounded like a lot of basic "good stuff"; just couldn't figure out what it had to do with a trackpad.

I don't see anything wrong, on a basic level, with shipping with a feature you have to pay to unlock. It is done all the time. (For example, DVD encoding on the first gen Xbox; you had to "buy the remote control" to enable it as a DVD player.)

A while ago you mentioned a slew of bugs getting fixed as the Time Capsule firmware gets folded back into the AirPort Extreme firmware. Any chance that'll happen sometime soon?
