This is interesting, as I'm currently trying to pen a new short for a comic, but I keep on disliking the ideas I have. It's always tricky coming up with new ideas, especially ones that don't spiral entirely around the author's fascinations for a character - makes it trickier to keep the story under 16 pages. I must admit, I didn't realise you wrote anything other than [lots of] fanfiction.. ^^; - it's cool to hear though, and it would be interesting to see some of your original work some time.

ahaha, I could toss a few ideas at you if the block doesn't go away. except for being stuck writing this report now that is. what comic is this for - another anth, or a one-shot? :D

the first things I ever ever wrote were original, just very confusing. and boring. and well, I just like fanfiction xD the characters are interesting to begin with, and it's somehow more fun extrapolating from then on.

Sure - any ideas you have would definitely be appreciated enormously! I would really like to do something with a female lead, ideally late-teen/early-twenties, and modern day setting - but I'm pretty flexible if I can think of something decent enough. The comic is a standalone piece - I'm keen to get something out before Amecon, and my other comic is 40 pages, so there's not enough time. I kinda fancy a break too, I would like to do something slightly different (which, oddly, means non-cute and non-angsty ^_~).

I can see why people write fan-fiction, fanart and everything else fan related, but it's perhaps a little more tricky for me to appreciate than something entirely original - I think it's a different sort of audience really, and it's interesting for writers to have to freedom to remove character development entirely from writing.

here's part 1 of hacker crackdown, by bruce sterling, courtesy of Project Gutenberg. first sterling i ever read. still have to find the book, but this was enough to impress me.

;)

have read his short story "maneki neko" in the year's best sf...mmm...12, i think. been so long ago. honestly, thanks to these two works PLUS the lexicon, i find sterling much more readable than gibson. though gibson's spontaneity is definitely its own brand of awesome...

thanks for the link - I'm looking at it now briefly and thinking, holy shit, this is denser than my report and he wrote a whole book like that? HOW CAN ANYONE KNOW SO MUCH?

<33333 will get back to you soon.

*greatly enjoying the lexicon*
*horribly guilty of some of these atrocities*
*but thankfully, already aware and attempting to cope*

AHAHAHA xD;; I doubt even Sterling himself could write an entire book while successfully avoiding any of the no-no's. still, yes. reading it is so much self-cringefest for me ;o;

you are welcome! <333
