Notes/Babbling: My three year anniversary (for this journal) is coming up. When I started this, I had no real vision for what I was going to do or how to go about it or even how long it would last. It still surprises me how long I've kept this up sometimes. (No reason, I just thought it was an interesting thing to note. Shut up!)
This also amused me greatly, this is why I still love Tenipuri fans (especially TezuFuji fans) sometimes all the time. ♥

- Bleach - Shades of Grey by crazydiamond_ - In a way, I was almost hesitant to read this story because I love the pairing so dearly, but I wasn't sure I was ready for porn with them yet. I mean, I totally was, but I wanted it to be good porn. But I read on with this fic anyway because I'd like the author's previous Bleachfic and just... oh. Oh. Hello. Hi. This is what I wanted. Ichigo and Orihime and it's hot and it's sexy and it's intense and everything has that Bleach sort of style to it, Ichigo's inner Hollow is all jagged lines and smirks and taunts, Orihime is all soft curves and such sweet caring and so gorgeous in body and spirit and Ichigo is all mixed-up and drive to do the right thing and... it felt like Bleach. It's not just the characterization (though, that was lovely as well) or the beautiful hot smut (again, how often does genuinely hot hetsmut come along? not nearly enough, never often enough), it's the way I can believe it would happen this way, the way Hollow!Ichigo provides a catalyst to get things moving. The way it fits together with their relationship (and lack of one) as it is right now, the way I feel the tension between them and this played on that beautifully.
I sat still for every word of this 4,000+ word story and didn't want to look away once, with Bleachfic that's rather increasingly rare. Hell, I wanted more of this one, I wanted to keep reading on and on, despite that it was perfectly paced and not padded unnecessarily. There are tons of details packed into this fic, the author doesn't gloss over anything that needs to be addressed. There are fight scenes when there need to be (yet they don't take over the fic!), there's sex when there needs to be and that's not glossed over, either. It's not just twenty words of a sex scene and then things are over, the pacing is smooth and even. Seriously, that doesn't happen nearly enough in fanfic! And, god, the ending was just... everything about it was exactly what I was hoping for. This is the kind of fic that settles me down on the Ichigo/Orihime pairing because it... it... it satisfies, is what I want to say, I guess. I can't be happy enough about that. Also, porn! ♥ (Ichigo/Orihime, NC-17.)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Special Recognition by Telanu - I had originally intended to watch the Pirates of the Carribean movie tonight, but I couldn't find it, so I popped in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead. I found myself utterly charmed by the movie and Depp's portrayal of the character and somehow I just couldn't resist trying to find fic. This is the first piece I read and it just. It nearly ruined me for any other fic in the fandom because it was so utterly eccentric and charming and delightful and perfect for post-movie canon that I fell in love. It's such a wonderful little idea and the author's take on Wonka's character in text is beautiful for the way she absolute nails him. I can positively hear both actors in their roles, I can picture it effortlessly in the style of the movie, right down to the little turns of phrase in prose. Not only that, it's such... such a neat way to show Wonka coming out of his shell because of Charlie, the way he opens up a little bit more, but in that strange, bizarre, eccentric way of his. This was perfect. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - In Camelot by Telanu - If I thought the previous CatCF fic was good, this one was simply divine. Set in the movieverse, sometime after the movie, Dr. Wonka visits his son's factory for the first time and... when I read that summary, part of me realized that, yes, that was likely the fic I was searching for, that one defining fic in fandom that lets you relax and say, "All right, there is one perfect fic, it's not absolutely imperative that I keep searching at a frantic pace." And, by god, that's what this fic was for me. Every last word of this fic is brilliant, not a single bit of it went to waste or wasn't perfectly crafted in my eyes. Wonka's characterization is genius, he's eccentric and damaged and brilliant and flighty and weird and all the brilliant, brilliant little bits of body language and expression that Johnny Depp put into the character. It's amazing how vivid he is in text here, how much he positively shines through in this fic. The characterization all around is brilliant, Charlie is just so... likeable here, his family is so perfectly themselves, the dinner with Dr. Wonka awkward and effective and perfect.
Even the descriptions are gorgeous without distracting from the story one bit, every bit of image blossomed beautifully in my head, whether it was the Chocolate Room or a particular expression on Wonka's face or-- or-- or anything. The way Wonka's so nervous, but still that loopy genius! The way Dr. Wonka was contrasted against his son, the way things are so awkward and uncomfortable, but it's still something nice! The way they still care about each other, even though they're complete opposites! The warm feeling of love and happiness I had by the ending! The sheer whimsy and imagination in Wonka's character! It's just. This fic took the essence of the character, of ALL the characters and the entire world of the factory... and bottled it up and let me re-experience that same feeling of delight I had when I watched the movie. I wish I could write a better rec, this is one of those fics that make me feel badly because I feel like it deserves so much more. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory/Petshop of Horrors - sweet Delight by Jaelle - I snatched the link for this off Aishuu's rec comm and the second I saw the premise, I thought, "This is either going to be very, very awesome or very, very awkward." Given that it's Jaelle, I'm not surprised that it turned out to be completely FULL OF AWESOME. Just. Oh. Oh. This was brilliant and perfect beyond words. Wonka and D in the same factory, the squirrels, and just. Oh. Oh, Leon. So perfect. So brilliant. I can't decide if it's the characters I love the most (because Jaelle does a brilliant job with both casts, that faint sense of creepy lingering along the edges of both universes, even when Charlie's such a good kid or Leon has his heart in the right place) or the concept/point of the crossover itself. It all comes together beautifully, every little bit of this fic is just... just... brilliant, really. One of those things that just simply works and satisfies. Wonka and D in the same room? This fic does that idea justice. (Implications of Leon/D if you're looking for it, but this is gen more than anything.)
- Final Fantasy VIII - Hush by andrine - There is something almost lyrical about this fic, it's like poetry in the way the author weaves these lovely colors or images across my mental field of vision. Which sounds horribly, horribly cheesy or pretentious, but it's my inability to describe more than the author's, because the writing here is absolutely lovely. There's something almost haunting in the way Squall's thoughts wind around themselves and drift off, in the way the slate gray of everything around them lends the same atmosphere to the piece. Yet, it's not a sad one, it's about love and intuition and fate and maybe a little philosophy and slowly coming to understand something on the eve of the final battle with Ultimicea. Squall's characterization is gorgeous, the way he's his usual emotard self, but slowly figuring out what Rinoa makes him feel. And Rinoa is lovely as well, a grace all her own even while she's so young still, so... almost naive like him. Except that's not a bad thing. They're gorgeous together, there's something in this fic that makes me feel like I'm seeing the game again, something that the author really and truly got about the point of it all. I love. - Kingdom Hearts - untitled by Meg - [Note: There may or may not be spoilers for KHII in here. I'm not even sure anymore.] There are shortfics for series other than KH in here, but the majority of them come from that set of games, so I'm going to just put it under this heading. What's really neat about these, other than, y'know, the whole good writing thing, is that they're interesting ideas put down in a neat little array. There are lots of different aspects covered, some humorous, some that'll threaten to tear your heart out a little, and they show all different aspects of the KH series. Also, Meg totally wrote post-KHII speculative fic about Riku, Sora, and Kairi travelling worlds together and there was lovely, lovely Riku characterization in it. ♥ (You could read some RikuSora into the fic if you wanted and there's definitely some Axel/Roxas, but there's a lot of gen, too.)
- Kyou Kara Maou! - Love's an Itch by poutonly - Oh, this was just. Fun and lovely and I enjoyed it so much. I ♥ Annisinia here, the way she's just so... it's not quite bossy, but there's certainly a lot of confidence there. And I love that there's something almost like subtlety (that's not quite it, but maybe it's a lack of being hit over the head with the obvious hammer) for all that you know exactly what's going on and Annisinia's making no excuses for it. I just. Gwendal's dating someone else. And Gunter itches. And they're so dumb about it and I love them so much. ♥ (Gwendal/Gunter.)
- One Piece - Smells Like… by Celeste - I have such massive love for Celeste's "Courtship Rituals" universe because her Zoro and Sanji are so retarded and crabby at each other, because she has this way of... I mean, they're married and that should be totally dumb, right? But it's not, it's somehow the best thing in the world because they're still fighting and calling each other names even while they're having sex (and, god, this was kinda hot, even though most of the action was implied). Plus, the ending is just. It's perfectly timed. Celeste really has a talent for writing the ends of her fics with little flourishes like this that just makes them totally worth it or make me laugh out loud or just go, "....dude, yes." Or all three! XD (Zoro/Sanji, R-rating.)
- One Piece - Domestic Violence Is Sweet Like Your Kisses that Tear My Lip and Leave It Bleeding by _paperpencil - This author is getting really good at these short little fics that are almost more satisfying than any of the longer ones I've read. She has a great way of actually getting the point across in a short fic, as well as a beautiful style and some great dialogue. And, god. Zoro and Sanji bitching at each other about their relationship and Luffy's denseness and it really is this great slice-of-life piece about those two retards and then the comments. Just great. - One Piece - Mapping Ground by paxnirvana - A nice little ficlet that's all about sex, but it's not... I mean, yes, it's PWP, but it's the kind that shows hotness between two characters, has those little details that makes it Zoro and Sanji, shows one potential dynamic between them while they're having sex. And it's just. Zoro. Oh, Zoro. So, so hot. And Sanji being all writhing and panting? So, so hot, too. *_* (Zoro/Sanji, NC-17.)
- Prince of Tennis - Illusions of Compromise by poutonly - I only read this fic recently (and I'm not sure why, I thought I'd checked the author's journal, huh) and it's just... it's such a short fic, but every time I look at the 305 wordcount, it surprises me because it felt far more complete than just 305 words would have given. It's such a beautiful look at the Tezuka/Oishi relationship, the way it's not perfectly smooth, the way things go out of whack sometimes, but how they quietly work somehow anyway. It's just. Yeah, I could totally see it like that. (Tezuka/Oishi.)
- Kingdom Hearts AMV - KH2 amv Hell-esque - I almost, almost gave this one a pass because the clips had potential, but almost seemed a little too random. And, I admit, I started fast forwarding a lot, but... then around the 2:05 mark there was this Xemnas part to the AMV. I watched and wondered what song it was and about ten seconds later, I stared in shock, then burst out laughing like a lunatic. Just. LOL. Though, I suspect it's one of those things you have to see at 4:30am to find it funny like I did. >_>a It slows down again after that. But. Then the Cloud and Sephiroth stuff came back and I started finding it the most hilarious thing ever. It's just. as;dljfalksjdflaskjd. Fantastic.
