Notes: So, I watched the
Crisis Core ending cutscene (obv. giant, giant SPOILERS in that link) and seriously just about started bawling. I only understood about half of what was being said, but that's enough to get the idea and this game is going to destroy me. ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! T______T

- Death Note/X -
You Are Not the First by fin mefiant - Along with xxxHOLiC, one of the series that has me actually excited about crossovers these days (instead of making faces at the thought) is Death Note, because it's so interesting to see the way elements from one series would affect the characters in another. This is a short and simple piece, Misa runs into a mysterious stranger in the park, someone who seems to know a little too much and someone she can't read at all, and it's just... intriguing and cool. I like the lack of action, there's a tension running through the piece that never quite dissipates, which is about how I would imagine this meeting would go. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Doctor Who -
The Boy who Killed Time by netgirl_y2k - I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I picked this story to read at random, except that it would probably have a lot of references to older Doctor Who characters that I didn't really know a lot about. What I got was indeed that, but still a story that was lovely and haunting and carrying a tremendous impact when the author poses a potential consequence of the Doctor's actions in the Time War. Watching things unravel from Martha's perspective is especially fascinating, the author gets her character and her voice down so very well, along with that sense of unease about something not being right the entire time. Just. Fantastic story here. (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Ugly Betty -
The Fishbowl Vignettes: The Grown Up Table by samirant - A few months back, I picked up the link for this series of fics from
tin's post and saved it for a rainy day when I was missing Ugly Betty fic. So far, I've only read the one, but already I really like this author's work. This story is a rather quiet night at the office, Betty and Daniel going through a pile of photos to try to pick a date for Daniel and it beautifully shows their friendship and how different they are while still showing that connection and care they have for each other. It's really clean, smooth writing as well, making it easier to read. (This is gen, but Daniel/Betty fans may enjoy it as well.)
- xxxHOLiC/Cardcaptor Sakura -
Moon at Apogee (part 03) by Aishuu - And the story continues to get further into the plot of this, which I've known some details of, so I knew the direction this was heading, but the interesting thing is watching the details unfold, watching Yuuko try to figure out what to do with Yue in her house as he doesn't really have anywhere else to go. The use of flashbacks to frame the story, the way that story is revealed piece by piece as well, is really well-done, it makes the plot feel that much stronger--and I may read fic for the pairings, but I love when there's actually a story being told, which this fic does. And I love the final scene in this chapter, from Yuuko's working of magic to what she glimpses in the future to every little detail, it just blossomed into my mind's eye, that scene. Especially for any CLAMP series, sometimes it's the little details, the little way magic works, the little gifts given that have a deeper meaning, the little crossovers to other series, that is some of the stuff I live for, too. (Clow/Yuuko, but it's not entirely the point.)
- xxxHOLiC -
We Don't Need Another Hero by Sophia Prester - [Note: This fic is actually a crossover, but given that it's more of a stealth crossover, I'm not going to list it, since some may want to read it without spoilers. I will do my best to be vague in the rec, but if you want to read it and be surprised, you may want to skip the rec and just read it. It's worth it. ♥] I managed to spoil myself for what series this fic was crossed over with, but I don't think that hurt my enjoyment of it, may even have helped it along, because I was having fun trying to figure out who the character in the story was. I got it about halfway through and watching this story unfold was just... this story is fantastic, everything about it is magnificent. The amount of details worked into the narrative that come from the point of view of a little kid without feeling like an infodump, the way it actually felt like a six year old's perspective and thought processes without dumbing it down or making it sound unnatural, the fangeeking! Oh my god Gatchaman references! I was gleeing so hard as soon as Condor Joe was mentioned, but the running theme throughout the fic was so fantastic and so perfect and, oh, man, this Yuuko is so excellent. She's just perfect, still the Dimension Witch, but not a bad person. The way she gently nudges things in the right direction, the way she treats this six year old seriously but not too seriously, just... I can't even talk about it coherently. This is what does it for me in HOLiC fandom, these clever little ideas pulled off brilliantly. Fantastic. (No warnings/pairings.)

Code Geass - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - God knows what I was even looking for when I hit this site, probably Odin Sphere art or something. But whatever it was that brought me here, I pretty much got immediately distracted looking at the gorgeous Code Geass art. When I first started poking around for Geass art, it was tough to find art that really did much for me (it doesn't help that I'm not that attached to any particular pairing, despite liking the impossible-to-last Lelouch/Shirley--this site caught my attention early on because there's an image of them and it's so rare to find anything for them, much less something this pretty ♥), but these days there are some sites that are really awesome. And this artist is amazing, her level of skill and detail are to die for, she could easily be a professional artist. Her art makes me interested in anything she would have drawn for the series, it's just that much better that I really like Euphemia and the way the artist draws her. Just. a sfdl;kjasdlkj amazing site and totally makes me feel warm and fuzzies for the Suzaku/Euphemia pairing, you can feel how much she loves the pairing. (Very Suzaku/Euphemia-centric, but half of the images may still be worth going through for gen-only fans.)

Gundam Wing - Style Y [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I don't even really remember how I got onto a GundamW fanart site today, I think I may have been looking for Tales of the Abyss art and there was a GundamW section and a links page and... well, here I was. And I feel like I've been to this site before, but I can't find it on my links page, so.... What I really love about this artist, what really makes me remember her art, is that she's got these incredibly sharp, clean lines that put tons of detail into her images, especially their hair, omg. And I love her b&w stuff, but she also does fantastic things with color, I love looking at both Heero and Duo's vivid eyes in any given picture. And her stuff is totally the shounen-ai fluffy variety, but she draws it so well that I don't mind. Duo's hair is long and streaming, Heero and Duo often are cozy together, her comics are fantastically solid and could probably be actual doujinshi (I would imagine it probably was, actually) and there's a LOT of them, and there's even a Relena image tucked away in the oekaki galleries. All things that make me feel warm and fuzzy. ♥ (Heero/Duo.)
-
Gundam Wing - AJISAIKA [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I know I've been to this site before. And I could have sworn I would have recommended it because I really liked it. But I can't find it anywhere and so if I end up recommending it twice... well. But it has Heero and Duo in Preventer uniforms and I love those outfits and am tremendously weak to them, so I was likely to be fond towards this site in the first place, but then there was a lot more art than I was expecting and a lot of was doujinshi style chibis that made me all nostalgic for the height of my GW obsession days. But what really won me over the most were the sketches, especially the more recent ones (most notably the last two pages of her rough sketches) because you can see how lovely her art is shaping up to be, her sketches, with the softer colors she uses, are really nice and I would love to see more from this artist these days. *__* (Heero/Duo.)
-
Gundam Wing - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I don't think this site will be for everyone and I think a lot of what I liked about it is that the images are just so cute and I've grown weak to certain things in fandom. But this site has my eternal love for the series of Heero/Duo chibi-esque images from each month, showing them in Halloween costumes or in Santa outfits or raking leaves or walking home from a festival or walking in the rain and they're all SO ADORABLE with this really neat style of splashing light color here and there in mostly b&w images. When done right, I really like that. But there's also a lot more art on the site, all with the same chibi-esque style, but just so... happy when they're dressing up in various costumes or clothing and it'sll just so cute that I want to scoop them up and take them home with me. ♥ ♥ ♥ (Heero/Duo.)
-
Gundam Wing - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Right from the very first image I came across on this site, a beautiful image of Heero and Duo hugging, done in this really fantastic anime cel style, I had a suspicion that I was going to love this site. Good GundamW art can be hard to find these days because the series is so old, but every once in awhile I still come across a site that makes the hours of combing through them worthwhile. And this is one of those, because the images are so bright and vivid and pretty and there is an utterly hot one of Heero and Duo in the shower kissing and omg yes plz. There's also a fantasy style image, there's another kissing image, and so on, all of them in that lovely cel-style coloring that I love when it's done right. There's even an oekaki board! I ♥ this site quite a lot. (Heero/Duo, some not safe for work content occasionally.)
-
Gundam Wing - ELECTRIC HEAT [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, man, the art on this site is so pretty. It's a combination of really good lineart together with some really neat coloring that can just sort of shimmer and some really awesome detail that just do it for me. I especially love the way the characters' hands are drawn, but their faces and eyes and hair are also terrific. There's also this one of both Heero and Duo shirtless (well, Duo might as well be) and it's just. Wow, it's gorgeous and completely hot and I would like more of this, please! Or more of them making out on the bed or about to make out on the couch with their clothes half off and all that shiny hair and little details and as;ldfkjasldk this is what I love. Fantastic site, especially for GundamW. ♥ (Heero/Duo.)
-
Gundam Wing/One Piece - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, I didn't intend to look at the OP fanart on this site, I meant to skip right on over to the GundamW stuff, but... there was so much OP fanart and I was just going to go through a few of them and then there were a couple of uber-cute Zoro/Nami images (especially in the hit galleries omgggg ♥) and that pairing is a weakness of mine... and then somewhere along the way, it became a quietly solid, enjoyable site. The artis really does do a very cute Nami and some cute group pictures and adorable Zoro and Chopper images that are worth going through the site for. It's definitely a site with a cumulative effect and positive feelings because of a semi-rare pairing that I like, but there are some really nice images to be found here. It's similar with the GundamW art, where there's a lot of images of all the pilots and they're cute, but I also really enjoyed the Trowa/Duo a lot. :D (Some Zoro/Nami, some Zoro/Sanji, but a lot gen for OP. Trowa/Duo and some gen for GW.)
-
Odin Sphere/Tales of the Abyss - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I don't know if I would have recommended this site if I were only here for the Odin Sphere art, because there are only three or four regular images (plus a handful of doodled comics) and as lovely as they are (especially the artist's Velvet, who is really beautiful here), I wasn't sure I could justify an entire rec for them. (Though, there are more really pretty images in the oekaki board.) But then I started going through the Tales of the Abyss images and they were lovely, I only had to see two of them (one a beautiful Ion image, the other a really cute and pretty Luke image) before I knew this was going to be a site I loved. The artist uses soft, bright colors a lot, almost like the feel of a painting and makes it really work for her images. Some are melancholy, some are happy, some are kinda creepy, so many of them putting in a surprising amount of emotion. Plus. You know. So pretty. *__*<3 (Maybe a little Peony/Jade or Jade/Luke, but the majority of the site seems very gen.)
-
Tales of the Abyss - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I've been to this artist's site before, for her Gintama and Naruto art, but now I see she also has Tales of the Abyss art and she certainly doesn't disappoint. She's got this great ability to sketch something and put in all these little details or interesting uses of color so that I love going through everything of hers, both the rough sketches and the regular gallery proper. Her colors feel a lot like water colors, which is a style you'll see a lot in game fandoms, but she really makes it work for her art here, I love her Asch and her Luke and her Guy and she has this really neat Ion + Anise image which made me smile. But, yeah, mostly it's her beautiful Asch art that makes me rave the hardest. (No warnings/pairings.)
