-- In regards to the movie-theater shooter guy, I think that the profilers are still busy at work combing through all of his online writings and stuff (if he has any) as well as waiting to see what things they dig up from his apartment before they even really start officially speculating on motive. Of course, since the shooter is still alive and in custody, I'm sure the police are also diligently questioning him and that too will go into motive. I have no doubt this guy has some elaborate reason in his head for why he did what he did, and it seems kind of clear that some sort of sociopathy was involved, but beyond that I think everyone in the news is taking a "wait and see" approach about his motives for now.
-- I couldn't agree with you more re: scanlations! It really doesn't bother me when they look kind of crappy and actually I think that allowing them to look crappy is a way to remind people that these are in no way a substitute for purchasing the original, particularly if eventually it's going to be released as an officially translated work in your own language! Also, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is pretty amazing, isn't it? I DON'T EVEN REALLY KNOW WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THAT MANGA SINCE IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I READ IT, BUT I REMEMBER IT BEING A TOTAL TRIP AND LOTS OF FUN TO READ AND LOOK AT.

-- the only anime I am currently following is Sword Art Online. Have you checked it out? It's kind of like .hack except less deep. Not my favorite anime by any means, and it's kind of predictably cheesy/rushed at times, but the premise is really awesome and the animation looks pretty good and there is some slash able subtext between the main guy and some dude he meet on the first day he starts up on the game.
I asked 'cause I assumed that there were more infos about it in your country :o Our news just told us the fact and made some comparisons with Columbine events.

Well, besides the anime of past seasons that are still ongoing, for this summer season (which always sucks because of the extra moe crap) I'm following only Moyashimon Returns (which is not as bright as the first series :/) and Kingdom, that despite the abuse of CG crap (it's animated in collaboration with a company of cellphone games creators o_o) is quite awesome--! But I'm a shonen-oriented person, so I don't think that I can rec my fav stuff XD
