Skylifter

Woo, check this thing out. :3 A company in Australia is designing the Skylifter, a heavy aerostat cargo blimp. They've got a pretty sweet and simple design too, with that 150m saucer of theirs. Ideally it should mean that the craft doesn't have to turn into the wind, as its uniformly shaped on all sides. Plus the use of small vectored thrust engine pods should make for easy control of the thing.

The design states that it should be able to carry payloads up to 150 tonnes, which is way more than even a Skycrane could pull off. Their website has lots of images of the thing carrying around a 4 floor prefab building, and setting them down just about anywhere. They could be very handy for transporting prefab structures of above-average size, or even hauling large building components up a tower. I could definitely see this thing being a boon to the construction industry, especially as we move towards building bigger and taller buildings.

Check out more on their site. :3
