Nino: Male-female reversal Q&A!

GENDER-REVERSAL QUESTIONS!

The theme of “Ooku” is male-female role reversal. So from the angle of “what if you were a girl?”, we asked a bewildered yet increasingly drawn-in Nino some never-heard-before questions.

Q1: In terms of fashion, would you like to become gyaru or mori gaaru? (gal/”forest girl”)

Gyaru. I have zero knowledge about mori gaaru.  I’ve no idea what I’d have to wear to become one, so I’ll go for regular gyaru (laugh).

Q2: What song would you like to sing at karaoke with a girl’s voice?

Aiko-san. There’s no particular song, but somehow her songs seem like “girl’s songs”.

Q3: How would you try to attract guys?

What’s an example of “attracting”? Like lightly touching their body, looking at them with upturned eyes and stuff? Well I guess I’ll emphasise my chest! By wearing really low cut necklines and stuff; I’ll show it off perfectly!

Q4: If you got groped on the train, what would you do?

I’d fight them off, right? (Resolutely) I don’t know if I’d scream out in a loud voice or not, but I don’t think I could stay silent, you know? I’d quickly get off the train and tell someone about it.

Q5: Full-time housewife or housewife with a part-time job, which would you like to be?

Gotta be full-time. I mean, I don’t get why I should have to take the trouble to pick up another role and go to work as well! (laugh) I will respectfully devote my full energy to my job as a housewife.

Q6: Long or short hairstyle?

Short. It’s not about what I like or dislike, I’m just thinking short hair seems easy to have.  It just seems that way.

Q7: If you were a girl, what school club would you like to join?

Hmm~ (long pause for thought) Things like cookery and needlework… what’s that called again? (is told by the journalist) Ah, home economics club. But is there even such a club? (Laugh) And besides, I guess there’s no rule saying guys can’t join?

Q8: As a girl, what occupation would you like to try?

What is there, I wonder…? Is there a job that makes the most of the fact I’m a woman..? There’s really not any jobs restricted to just women, are there? I can’t really come up with one.

Q9: Sailor suit or blazer, which would you most like to try wearing?

Sailor suit. Because I’ve worn men’s blazers both for acting roles and in real life, but I think sailor suits are something only girls can wear.

Q10: Something you’d like to try learning?

Hot yoga, tea ceremony, flower arranging, hula dancing… stuff like that? Hmm, there’s not really anything in particular. (Laugh) I don’t think I’d like to try anything like tea ceremony or flower arranging at all.

Q11: If you became a female actress, what role would you like to try playing?

Just the role of a girl, surely? I don’t really have a preference as to character or job; as long as it’s a girl, anything’ll do. Not now, not ever, have I felt like I want to try playing a role like that.

Q12: As for clothes, would you be the skirt type, pants type, dress type or shorts type?

Skirt or dress. Because it’s not like I can wear it as a boy. After all, if I’m going to go to the trouble of becoming a girl, I should make the most of it!  …I mean, I’m fully getting into the spirit of this (laugh).

Q13: To sleep, would you wear pyjamas, a nightgown or go naked?

May as well go for the nightgown. Obviously I’m choosing from the point of view of “if I was a girl”. Although I’ve never once come across a girl that wears a nightgown (laugh).

Q14: Would you prefer your bust to be big or small?

Hmm~ big, I think. Just because I guess it’s kind of good to have something there rather than nothing at all. I don’t know what size counts as big, but if they’re going to be big, then the bigger the better, right?

Q15: What kind of makeup would you like to try?

Lipstick, blusher, mascara, eyeshadow…  I have no idea what it’s all like, but for now I’ll say false eyelashes. There’ve been a lot of girls using them recently, right? I can’t really picture what the other stuff is like.

Q16: At your wedding, would you wear a wedding dress or a kimono?

Hmm~, for this one, it’d have to be the wedding dress, right? It’s like, it feels like you can wear a kimono any time, not just your wedding. But the dress is something you don’t really wear at any other time, isn’t it.

Q17: As an OL (female office worker), would you be the type to bring your own lunch or buy it?

The buying type. If my personality hasn’t changed since becoming a girl, that is. Now I almost always buy; I pretty much never bring my own lunch from home. But maybe (as a girl) I’d start to like cooking and stuff… Nah, I think I’d still end up buying it.

Q18: Barefoot or tights, which is best?

Both are fine, but- ….no, literally either will do (laugh).  (Nino is told that coloured tights make your legs look pretty, etc). Yeah, but I can’t be bothered with troublesome stuff like that, so I’d ditch the tights and go barefoot.

Q19: For swimwear, would you be bikini type or swimsuit type?

Bikini. I’m not really sure what a swimsuit is. Ah, the thing that’s all in one? In that case, it’s got to be bikini, right? Because it’s swimwear, right? When you think of womens’ swimwear, bikini is most swimwear-ish, isn’t it. Anyhow, that’s the one I’d most like to try wearing.

Q20: What would your favourite male idol type be?

For our generation… It’s V6. But if I name a specific member, that might lead to a misunderstanding, so I’ll use discretion there (laugh). But I used to go to their concerts. In my junior days I’d go to all of them in the summer holidays, regardless of where they were playing.

Q21: Would you give handmade or shop-bought Valentine’s chocolates?

Shop-bought. Even for my crush, I’d probably not make anything by hand. I mean, it’s such a hassle. And it’s not as if he’s going to be hand-making me anything for White Day.

Q22: Would you give chocolates to just your crush, or would you give out Giri chocolate too? (Note: Giri are the type that you give to colleagues, friends etc.)

No, I don’t think I’d just give to my crush. I think I’d give out quite a lot of Giri chocolate too - make an event of it.

Q23: For shoes, would you wear high heels or sneakers?

High heels. I mean, if I’m becoming a girl, isn’t it best to wear the girl’s option? (laugh). I think I’ll go for the girliest choice. I mean, where’s the fun in just wearing sneakers?

Q24: What food would you like to make for your boyfriend?

My boyfriend’s favourite food. If I really wanted to do it for him, I think I’d do my best even though I’m no good at cooking. Food that a guy would like… well, everyone’s different, but for me, it’s cheap foods. So, something that can be made cheaply (laugh).

Q25: When you give birth, do you want a home birth or a hospital birth?

Eeeh!? (laugh). I’ve got no idea about the pros and cons of either, but isn’t hospital birth best? Are home births popular right now? But the hospital’s cleaner than my house, I think (laugh). I’ll go for the place where they have all the machines ready.

Q26: What would you like to try cosplaying?

Nurse, maid, sorceress, cat ears, bunny girl..? I don’t really have a preference (laugh). At a push, I guess I’ll choose nurse. The reason? Because it was the first one that came to mind.

Q27: If you had nail art, what kind would you go for?

Simple is best. I’d choose something without decoration and just one colour. Girls might grow them long or whatever, but as for me, I’d keep it to a level that won’t get in the way of everyday life.

Q28: As a mother, if you found your son’s dirty magazines, what would you do?

Eh? So I’m a mother now, am I? (laugh).  I’d not really do anything. Just put them back where I found them. Somehow, leaving them out for him to notice them seems dirtier.

Q29: Would you live together with your mother-in-law?

Fufu (laugh). This isn’t really specific to being a woman though is it? I don’t think being a girl means you have any special reason to live or not live together. If we were both full-time housewives, we’d spend all day together? That’s alright isn’t it? I think I’d live together with her. I mean, that way we could get to know each other better. And whatever way you look at it, she’s your parent, right? (laugh)

Q30: Which Arashi member would make the best girl?

Who would it be, I wonder? I have no idea about stuff like who likes being neat and tidy, or who’s the most womanly. Our generation didn’t really stay in the dorms much, so we didn’t get to see those aspects of each other. If we’re talking cooking, it’d have to be (Matsumoto) Jun-kun though. As for looks, any of us are OK, surely? We’re Johnny’s after all (laugh).
