2 [pretty good xD] translations of toma's 2012 interviews (and 1 f/2009)!!
i used google docs to extract the text from the magazine scan, then used bing translator (formerly babelfish) to translate it into english. THESE TRANSLATIONS ARE NOT PERFECT because google docs does not extract japanese text very well and bing translator's japanese translations are just ok. it depends on the interview, but i think so far, they turned out pretty good! thanks to kavya for telling me that google docs can extract japanese text!! ~_~
i'm still not sure if this is a good or bad idea, because i hate to think i'm spreading false information about toma, but...
i think i'll keep doing it for now. lol. i just feel like it's a shame that toma has had SO MANY magazine interviews and we've only had maybe 10% of it translated. I WILL KEEP TRANSLATING TOMA INTERVIEWS THIS WAY, GRADUALLY. ^_^ i will work backwards and translate the most recent ones first. but sometimes i'll translate the older ones too, if i think it might be interesting. (unfortunately, i can only do this with toma's interviews that have mostly a white background for the text.)
if you can read japanese and see some mistakes, please do correct me!
i will link to the magazine scans, so you can check to see how bad my translation is. hahaha.
this took much more time than i expected!!
the extracting and bing translator parts were super fast, but the part that takes a lot of time is trying to make sense of the gibberish that bing translator gives me. xD please forgive me if i make any very wrong guesses. xD
BUT I REALLY TRIED MY BEST TO INTERPRET THE TRANSLATION BING GAVE ME,
AND I THINK IT'S REALLY NOT THAT BAD, SO PLEASE DO COMMENT!!!!! =T

---what i got from the parts that kind of made sense:
-after filming was done that day, for his most challenging role so far, a completely different character...Ikuta Toma appeared in the studio for the photoshoot with the theme "regardless of the season, a usual rough t-shirt style will do"
-this bangle is named according to the clothes [????]. i feel like i can quickly put it on before going out.
-[something about cool ringtones and an ipad??]
-incidentally, i'm going to the gym after this
-he has to go to the gym because he's filming the movie Brain Man, a violent mystery masterpiece. he trained for half a year and [something about his body??].
-practicing martial arts for this movie has given me a better figure, though it's really tough and painful~ (laughs). i trained for a very long period.
-there is some authentic, dynamic rope action scenes [?]
-Ikuta plays the hero, Ichiro Suzuki, who has an inherent photographic memory, no human feelings, and he's a murderer.
-i have had many different roles...including the one in The Tale of Genji...but this role is completely different from the rest.
-things that are important in acting, like conveying an emotion on my face, or having certain gestures, i have to avoid. i actually have to do nothing as much as possible. [i think he's saying because his character is emotionless, he can't be as expressive when acting]
-sometimes even the difference in lighting, eyes glowing with a glint, has to express so much
-thanks to the camera work and the staff...they helped make the "brain man" real. i definitely couldn't do it by myself.
-he has no facial expressions and no emotions...
-ikuta has a reputation for being kind to everyone, regardless of gender. he is caring and will get good comments from people in the office [the staff?]. from both his juniors and fellow actors, they will say he is a "nice guy~!" who shines and laughs a lot.
"Maa~ [???] (laughs). i'm not aware of all that. i wonder what you think of me right now!" [maybe like...please don't think he's arrogant because so many people compliment him. xD]

-after i go home i relax by looking at my plants and seeing how much it has grown. i carefully water it and notice the leaf color...the plant becoming lush~ (thriving/productive). or discovering a new bud has come out! and it makes me think "time absorbs water to become early summer. [???] ahhh...my plants are alive~ yeah, i'll do my best [to take care of the plants?] (laughs)."

[they = yano and nanami in Bokura Ga Ita, i think?] i think it's difficult to say, right? i am taking on a lot of challenges [trying new things/showing different sides of him?] in this movie this spring, everyone. please also be immersed in the scenes of the movie.
-honestly, i don't know (laughs). i can't give [love] advice. i think the only things that matter is [?????]. but people shouldn't sugarcoat their relationship.
-the movie shows how students grow and become adults
-personally I think i like the scene in the field, where they are talking and having fun

-I think that love bonds give you the ultimate feeling of happiness
-Yoshitaka was also in good condition and had a lot of energy, helping energize everyone.

[i have a weird feeling that someone might have translated this because the stuff he talks about seems familiar, but maybe that's just cause he talked about it in several different interviews?? hmm...]

I went to see the concert during this period. Guys do things like this. (something about dinner?) after it was over, I thanked them for the invitation. (something about someone being wrong and a finale...) so I'm back home after the (??) and thinking, and i'm inspired (by the great concert?). I--well, I forgot my cell phone at home....couldn't say congratulations.
[he must be talking about when he went to arashi's 10th anniversary concert and afterparty in 2009. jun called him to invite him to dinner or something afterwards, but he forgot his phone, so he didn't know and couldn't meet up with them. lol.]

-But that is the limit. if i sleep more, i become tired. it works in reverse.

-when he has time, he stays at home, goes strolling with jam his dog, in the neighborhood
