Mom here. Thursdays are not good days. Sam has to work late and that means that he and Matthew don't get to see very much of each other before Matthew has to go to bed.
Quick report on the day: Matthew had a good day in school, though his friend Liev claimed that Matthew had "hit and kicked" him. Since Liev wasn't hurt or crying--or even mad at Matthew--I suspect that Matthew was right on Liev's heels to leave the classroom to go home and pushed him a bit. I had Matthew apologize (he felt very bad about whatever he'd done).
We went to the community center right after school. There were quite a few kids in the daycare room and some were even playing Candyland. When I got back from exercising, Matthew was half-asleep on a bean bag chair and there was only one other boy there. He fell asleep on the way home; I would have carried him in as usual, but the area between the back step and the car is pure ice and I didn't dare try. Not an easy boy to wake up!
He watched a bit of tv and we played pirate ticklebugs and spaceships. By the time Sam came home at 7, Matthew was Very Ready for bed. He's now claiming to be scared of the dark (the light from downstairs lights up the upper landing and bleeds into his room, so his room isn't *that* dark). He wanted my blue shawl to sleep with again and asked if I'd make him a "sleep shawl." He also asked for music again; I punched in one of the instrumental Christmas CDs that are still in the player.
Judging by the deep breathing from the monitor now, I think it's all worked. That was a Tired Little Boy.
