And so it goes. Many of you are aware that Amanda and I are going to be moving out to Mojave. That's right - the desert. Her folks have 10 acres there, and on the back-end, there is an old "double-wide" mobile home... Thats where all the work begins.
- No one has lived in this old beast in over 10 years.
- Everyone and their dead grandmother have been storing everything they could find in there.
- Part of the storage? Supplies and old furniture from an upholstry shop.
- The mice? In every wall, the floor, the cieling, carpet, furniture... everywhere. Dead mice in the dry toilets... So all the carpeting and padding ripped out. All the walls, floor etc... bleached and scrubbed down.
- The piping? Shot. I have started the re-pipe. All drops are in, new bathroom faucets... another weekend and about $150 should do it.
- The electrical? Shot. Needs complete re-wire. Started, but... I am doing research to make sore I have it all going correctly.
- The desert sun and wind have taken their toll.
- The roof needs patching. Badly. Amanda has started this.
- Master bedroom? Floor was slanted. I have already leveled that out.
- Some of the sub-flooring needs replacing. All of the floor needs flooring. Pergo / hardwood / tiling...
- All three bedrooms - Need to put up dry-wall. Not immediately, but... I do not want the bad paneling.
- Building a laundry room off the side of the building.
- New front door needed.
- Re-build deck.
- Replace swamp - cooler.
- Re-run Cooler and Heater venting.
Over all, this is a long process. Long and expensive. The drive out there? Well... at the fastest, it has been just under two miles. Cruising past Lancaster and Palmdale, the past Rosamond... 6 short miles off the freeway then home! Problem is, average time has been more loke 3 hours.
Last night? The fires at Tehachappi. The smoke over the last 2 days blowing straight over us. Sinus headaches!! The moon was beautiful - and orange. Ash fell from the sky like snow in hell...
I can't wait until the refurbish is done and we can start making the home ours. Three bedroom, two bath... We will put our creativity to work, our experience in art, from working as handymen... yeah. This will be our own little monster house.
