The other hobbits had fit into the rhythms of Rivendell, but he had found the peace of this deep mountain valley was more elusive.
“You are a farmer, one who works with growing things?” the elf asked.
“I'm...well yes,” he responded, blushing. “I'm a gardener. It's a farmer o' sorts.”
“You feel happiest when working with your hands in the soil?”
He nodded. “That's true, Master elf, sir. I love good dirt.”
“We have fields here, hidden in the folds of the cliffs. It's harvest time. Would you be interested in taking up a scythe along with us?”
Sam smiled.
