I sit upon the lawn, basking in the bright sunshine, watching the fountain play, delighting in the rainbows that dance in the water.
Closing my eyes and listening to the joyous whoops of the boys as they rough-house, it is almost like being back home in Númenor. One might almost think that these long years of fear and fire and flight have been nothing more than a bad dream….
Almost.
A shadow flickers across the sun, and my eyes flash open, instantly alert.
Whatever cast it is gone, but the shadow remains upon my heart.
I fear it ever shall.
