Hello everyone! :)
My name is Julia, and I am a new member of told_tales (and of livejournal), so I suppose I should introduce myself a little.

Favorite Tale: That would probably be the Scandinavian tale "East of the sun and north of the earth" or perhaps "Agneta and the Sea-King". I also love "Prince Hat under the Ground", "Beauty and the Beast" and ( Read more... )

That's a really lovely picture! Where is it from?
And ... hello and welcome, of course! ^^

Thank you! :)
The picture is an illustration by John Bauer for the tale of Agneta and the Sea King. I think it's really lovely too (and I always like to include pictures to ad a little more "flavour" to a text) ;-)

Hey, any idea where I could read that tale? I tried googling around, but just found one story that looks like some kind of a sequel someone else wrote (the Sea King's Second Bride). I like "sea-tales" and would love to read this one... It'd be okay in Swedish, too.

Well, the tale can be found in English in this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Swedish-Folk-Tales-Polly-Lawson/dp/0863154573/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339337703&sr=8-1
But if you don't want to buy a whole book just to read one tale, maybe I could post the story here? It is not very long, so I wouldn't mind copying it (also I think it would be a good english exercise for me). ;-)
By the way, do you understand Swedish? I think I have both a Swedish and an English version, so you may choose what you like. :-)

Well I request a post in English if you get a chance!

And welcome, too. :)

Thank you! Was going to say that maybe English would be better, so others could read it too. ^^ I'm still considering buying that book... I have way too many fairytale books anyway, so one more wouldn't matter. The illustrations tempt me...

...but a little voice keeps on nagging at me to get it in Swedish if I'm going to buy it. >_> Would be good Swedish practice for me, too... yeah, I understand Swedish. Jag är finsk, så. Efter tio år pluggande i skolan borde det inte vara så hemskt svårt att använda svenska...
