Hello everyone! :)
My name is Julia, and I am a new member of told_tales (and of livejournal), so I suppose I should introduce myself a little.
Favorite Tale: That would probably be the Scandinavian tale "East of the sun and north of the earth" or perhaps "Agneta and the Sea-King". I also love "Prince Hat under the Ground", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Elves' Hill" by H C Andersen. Elves' Hill because it is so funny and includes so many different creatures and magical beings, Beauty and the Beast because I like the message of the story, and the other three simply because they are beautiful and imaginative stories that I grew up with.
Tale you're most intrigued by: I find mythological and religious tales to be the most intriguing, perhaps because I am so fascinated by what people of different cultures and time epochs thought and believed about life and death, divinity, universe, nature and how all things came to be.
Favorite hero/ine: One of my favorite heroes is Sir Galahad, because I have always loved pure-hearted, spiritual and saintlike characters. And there is definitely something special about Pocahontas, she is a strong and wise woman, and really a heroine to look up to.
Favorite villain: Does Megamind count? Perhaps not, but I would like to mention him anyway. He is so cute and funny! And I like that his skin is blue. Another blue villain is Blue Beard, and he really freaks me out. So does Hans my Hedgehog. Ugh!
How you became interested in fairy/folk tales: Reading aloud has been a matter of course in my family for as long as I can remember, so I grew up with tales and stories about fairies, trolls, ghosts, gods and goddesses and other things. Like most children I loved to hear these stories, but unlike many, I never grew out of it. At least not this far, and I hope that I never will.
Favorite authors: Selma Lagerlööf, Ali Shaw, Birgit Sparre, the Grimm brothers and H C Andersen, to mention a few.
A little something about you: Myths, legends and fairy tales are a great inspiration to me, and I incorporate them in my everyday life by drawing, sculpting and writing. And I really do believe in fairies!
