Kinda Sorta on Vacation (Finally)

After meeting with My Professor earlier this afternoon, we realized that we've gotten to a point on the CV that we can't do too much more before it gets submitted for another faculty-ish review. All the statements My Professor needs to write (artist, teaching, etc.) will only need a grammar/punctuation check.

All things that can be done over email.

So, I don't need to go in again this week and there are no plans to go in next week, either. I can review the stuff from home and send it back in.

Oh, yeah, baby!

I'll have some time to do a few things around the house, and get things set up for the Fall semester (which starts on the 25th). Since my niece isn't moving back up until the 22nd, I'll be a little hampered getting my studio space ready, which will be in the guest room. Things have to be done in such a way that my art stuff can be easily packed away when guests arrive. Right now, we're using the room to store some of my niece's stuff. It just made sense to keep it up here so she wouldn't have to move it down and back up later on.

At some point, I need to go down and visit Baby Bro and family. They'll be starting back to school a week or so before I do, so it would be nice to spoil them that one last bit before Summer is over. I also need to find out when and where Sis-in-Law is running her triathlon. It would be cool to cheer her on ... while Baby Bro and I suck down a cold, frosty beer from the sidelines. Actually, I'm really impressed by Sis-in-Law. This is something that she's wanted to do for a while, and it takes a bit of moxie to do a triathlon in the Florida heat.

And I've got to get my football crochet schedule lined up. Right now, I've only got two requests for baby blankets. I've still got my summer thread crochet projects going on (a filet crochet tablerunner and the beginning of a lace tablecloth) and I've been stalled on my reusable grocery bag. I ran out of plastic bags and need some more to make the "yarn."

In a way, I kinda blame M for that. We've been using those Walgreen bags when we go grocery shopping, so we haven't been getting the Publix bags for several weeks now. We're really pleased with those Walgreen bags, too. We can get almost a cart full of groceries into those four bags. They make stacking the groceries in the trunk very easy without letting everything spill and roll around on the way home.

wineroom should be back from her internship - and sleeping - by now. We'll have to make arrangements to get back to work on our research. I had hoped to have two paper outlines done by the end of summer. I might get to it yet, now that my GA load has lightened up for a couple of weeks.

And - strangely enough - I find that I'm very happy not to be going to Dragon*Con this year. With all the stuff I've got to wrap up and all the stuff I need to get ready for, I don't think I could take the added stress of having to get costumes, schedules and luggage ready for a five-hour trip in order to be packed like a sardine for three days in Hotlanta, only to drag everything (and several bags more) on a five-hour drive back ... with a stack of homework from the first week of school staring me in the face.

That's not to say that I won't enjoy podkayne8's photos and recaps, especially if Little Thor makes his grand first appearance. But I think I'll be just as content putzing around my garden, eating fresh corn and doing homework during the Labor Day weekend.
