Today I was scheduled to work from 7:30 up until 12. I got there early, so I layed my head back and closed my eyes. I happened to open them again just in time to see the front door close right after it had been unlocked. I clocked in and got to work cleaning the kennels of dogs that had peed or gone home. This took up my time until about 10:30. Then, Jil (the new kennel manager) saw me walking around the kitchen and asked if I wanted to be the official groomer for today. I thought Grooming means using a drill to trim the dogs nails, cleaning their ears, brushing out any and all tangles they have, and then bathing (sp? bathe-ing) them. I gave Jil a strange and unsettled kind of look. She gave it right back to me saying, "I'll love you forever!" Then she gave me a kind of begging look. I started to tell her that I don't know how to do everything yet and she said that whoever went back to grooming, Sharon was going to teach them how to do everything. Alright...
I go back to grooming and Sharon says, "You'll be doing all the baths." YES!!! I can do that! I know how to do that! Sharon explains everything to me--how to wash, dry, and clean up after. The clock hit 11:55, Sharon plops another dog in the tub, and I say "I'm supposed to get off in 5 minutes..." Sharon asks if I want to stay until all the baths are done. SURE!
Around 3 I finally get done with them all. YAY! That means I got 3 hours of over-time today! That's AWESOME! Anyway, I put the bath apron back on the hanger and hung the lead back up with the others. I looked at Sharon and announced I was done. "What, you aren't going to stay and help us some more?" She gave me a grin...she was joking, thank God! I hadn't even had a lunch break. Anyway, she comes over to me, gives me a hug and says "Thanks for staying after and helping today. I really do appreciate everything." The greatest part was that she was sincere about it and not just doing the boss's line of "thanks for helping", ya know?
Today was the best day of work at the kennel EVER!
yay!,
