Hong Kong

I miss him. Really, 6 weeks is waaay too long. The funny thing is that I think he misses me more. Everytime he sees me online, he wants to webcam.. which is a tad bit of a hassle for me because my mother is oh-so-nosey, and I hate sharing my personal life with her.

But anyway, I went to Hong Kong this weekend. It was.. not sure how I can describe it. I mean yeah, it was fun. For sure. But a lot of unfortunate things happened as well.. Here's a breakdown of my trip...

Friday, Day 1:
- Take off from Taipei at 10 am, which was just hit by a typhoon.
- Midway through our flight, lightning struck our plane and freaked everyone out. Turbulence was bad also
- After landing safely, the line at immigration caused a 2 hour wait.
- We took a bus to our hotel and we were the last to be dropped off. Therefore, we finally arrived at our hotel at about 4 pm. Most of the day was wasted.
- We took a stroll around Mongkok, where our hotel was. Apparently a shadier part of Hong Kong, and near the Ladie's Market where designer fakes are commonly found. After eating dinner we exhaustedly returned to our hotel.

Saturday, Day 2:
- From our travel agent we got free tickets to Disneyland and an unlimited 24 pass for the MTR (Metro) so we decided to go to DISNEY!
- The Hong Kong MRT is really, really cool. Except, there are too many people there at all times. In fact, everywhere you go in Hong Kong, it seems like there are too many people.
- Disney was really fun, even though it was so so hot. I made my mom go on Space Mountain, which seriously freaked her out! She said she thought she was going to die the whole time. I think she was even chanting the sutra at moments. Hilarious, but I am sure part of her really enjoyed it, haha.
- Bad part of Disney was that Hong Kong people are seriously rude! We would be waiting in line, a line that wasn't really moving, and people would keep pushing forward. Sweaty, smelly people shoving you forward. Needless to say, it was very very uncomfortable.
- After Disney, we went to Causeway Bay to UNIQLO!
- Then, we went to Cafe De Coral. Right after ordering my food and picking it up, a tiny girl bumps into me. Everything I was carrying drops, crashes, splatters. The whole restaurant stares. Her rude mother says "HURRY! Let's go." I apologize to the people cleaning up my mess. Luckily, the manager gives me another meal for free. Terrible, crowded, rude experience.

Sunday, Day 3:
- Hong Kong Museum of Fine Arts. I love museums. It had this wonderful exhibit called Digit@logue, when technology meets culture / communication / art.
- After the museum, we wander around to another Uniqlo! Uniqlo's and Muji's are always together for some reason. Probably because they're both Japanese...
- Tired after walking so much, my mom and I settle to ordering drinks at KFC. However, overcrowded as it was, we had to wait to find a seat. And when we finally found a seat, we realized that the booth where the table was was collapsed. So we huddled in the tiny corner that it was. Then, my mom spilled her coffee...
- So back to Uniqlo to buy her a new outfit!
- We went back to our hotel to take the bus to the airport.
- After checking in at the airport, we went through security... who confiscated my Swiss Army pocket knife which was unknowingly on my keys. My Swiss Army knife that my aunt gave me when I was about 8 years old. I was seriously mad and upset and speechless.
- Anyway, we got back to Taiwan safely, but I was really actually glad not to be in Hong Kong anymore.

I really miss home. Even Berkeley... Two more weekends here and I'm back!
