I logged on to talk about del Toro and 24 Hr Comic Book Day
---and ended up babbling about the new Hawaii Five-0 show instead. Hurpderpa.
So I actually like it, since I can watch a show and go "ohey I used to walk/ride the bus/work/live around there" while pointing out a few things. They also keep the original theme! Yey for Daniel Dae Kim being on the show, yey for some local actors being on the show (albeit in minorish parts--HIRE MORE!) and yey for pidgin being spoken in the show!
I'm pretty sure once the mainland audience gets more used to pidgin (or "bird", as they call it for some reason), they'll add more. I sure hope so.
So far I'm enjoying Danno and McGarrett's back-and-forths between each other, the various locales, stoned-as-fuck hacker Toast's laconic asides, and the fact that the show's set in Hawaii. I like that they're attempting to give all of the Five-0 a good backstory other then "the white local haole, the mainland haole, the chinese dude, and the hawaiian/mixed race dude".
I've only seen two episodes so far, but I'll be looking forward to the next ones.
