I made a new discovery today. Apparently, in Illinois, possibly in the entire midwest, they use different definitions for a haircut. I went in to a place and gave them the exact same instructions as I give to every barber in CA, but tacked on a warning that "I don't want it very short. I just look silly when my hair is too short."
Well, it's short. Approaching marine style. Apparently "taper" in the native language means take a scissors to cut the top, but make it the same length as everything else anyway. And leave the sideburns uneven.
On a positive note, had a nice visit with the grandparents, and tonight I am going to see the movie Broken Flowers with Dancing-girl!
