Have some words about it from me:
Go had some great points and some bad points, but overall it's pretty even to the original series and I couldn't pick one over the other if I tried. All of the characters in Raimon this time were extremely endearing, even if the only ones that got much development were the first years + Shindou. The third years honestly got the short end of the stick- Sangoku was the one who disappeared and reappeared the most in relevance, since halfway through he started teaching Shinsuke to be goalie so that gave him something important to do. Nishiki, while arguably having the most spotlight of the five (after Minamisawa left, but more later) and being a main character in the next series...didn't do much. All of his development, save for his spotlight episodes, seems to be happening in Chrono Stone. Amagi was great, and I'm so glad they gave him such a fantastic backstory. But, unless he was opposing things, he didn't do much. Kurumada, minus one episode and then one scene near the end, didn't do much of anything. And Minamisawa was basically put on a bus after he left and only showed up to get his ass kicked, help Raimon train, and stare angrily at soccer matches with Hyoudou.
Go wasn't really kind to my favorite characters, huh? Let's not even get started on the second year trio and Ichino and Aoyama. SO MUCH POTENTIAL WASTED. (Though Hayami did show improvement throughout the series.)
BUT DESPITE THE BAD STUFF (aka no focus and barely any likeable enemies imo until Kidokiwa and beyond) the great stuff was, just that, GREAT. Tenma was an extremely fun main character (though I honestly prefer Endou a little bit more), the managers this time around were all more distinct in my opinion (even if they didn't do much), and the story was fun and very different from the original. The villain, Senguuji, was also fantastic although his motives were kind of lame. Gouenji/Ishido was alright, though I'm kinda depressed he was playing the good guy all along and didn't get a Heel Face Turn. I wanted dramatic explanations and exposition between him and Endou. Darn it.
Endou/Natsumi is cute and I'm happy they got together, although it would have been much easier for him to stay single so no ships would have gotten sunk. Ah well, that's life. I'm not complaining.
Also Osamu and Kira grew up hot. So did Kidou and Someoka. Great job kids, I am proud.
In other news, I'm finally trying to settle into a college lifestyle. Everything's fairly okay so far, and the math, while a pain in the ass, is not as bad as I thought it would be. English class is pretty fun- the answers we have to respond to at the end of each assignment are pretty interesting and I can finally churn out some quality answers.
Haha, wow I was apparently in a good mood that day because none of that still holds except for the bit about English.
