away from the tv screen

You know, instead of going to class, i would rather watch dvds. It's a lot more entertaining and a lot less suck-tastic. This whole "learning" thing is overrated. But eh, at least i don't have homework at the moment, so i really do still have a good amount of sittin' around time. That's important. Anyway, Alias DVD Watch 2004: Trust Me, Cipher, Dead Drop.

Trust Me

-Kendall! I miss Kendall. He's such an asshat, but in the best way. Kinda like Haladki. Brings good snark. Vaughn's offhand "he's got a great bedside manner, huh?" is priceless. Hee.

-Oh man, Syd and Vaughn really look ridiculously pretty this episode. You know how that happens? It used to happen on XF, too (Unruhe and Teliko come to mind). Just, somehow, they look even prettier than normal. It's a fascinating phenomenon. ANYway. When Syd was talking about the blackmail goods- "pornographic photographs"- it completely made me think of the spy!porn tape, and how much i would like that to resurface. Of course, it's probably long gone by now, but it's a fun thought that it survived in some backroom stash of surveillance footage, hidden away collecting dust. Or, you know, Allison got a hell of a lot more stuff than just that one tape that the CIA got their hands on. (tie!sex, dude) It's gotta be out there. Ya know... i'm just sayin'. *cough*

-Vaughn meeting Irina! AHH!! Awesomeawesomeawesome. "Sydney? Interesting." "AGENT BRISTOW..." Gaaah i love that. She, just, immediately can tell what's up. That Irina, she knows the score! And then, man, "You look just like him." It's... it's chilling, my friends. Yes, CHILLING. It always makes me wonder how she remembers William that well, and i think it would be cool for there to be a deeper reason for daddyVaughn's murder than just a casualty of the job. There could be a more long-term reveal involved, but, unfortunately, no Irina anymore. BAH. Now i must pout. Oh, and also, Vaughn sucks. He looks back when he's leaving the cell! Everyone knows you're not supposed to look back! You steel yourself and walk away! GOD.

-Bwahaha, Vaughn's phonecall with Jack cracks me up every time. "THE ANSWER IS NO!!" The editing is genius.

-Syd's first meeting with Irina is so, so awesome, most especially because of: "Why should i do that?" "Because i'm your mother." AHH!!

-Wooo! PinstripeSuit!Vaughn!!! I remember first seeing the promo pic of that before the season had even started, and i nearly had a heart attack. I seriously almost died. Seriously. Cause... GAH. Such a pimp. <3

-I love how Syd goes off on Irina about how she's not her mother, but for the rest of the season, she constantly refers to Irina as "my mother" or "mom". I don't even think she registers that she does it, which is a cool way of showing how hating Irina is more of a facade of what she wants to do than anything else. Of course, it's also just easier for her to refer to Irina as "mom", for the viewers, but... that's not as fun. I like my version better.

Cipher

-Hee, when Vaughn's explaining his stance on whether they should trust Irina or not, Syd's reactions are fantastic. At first she's all disappointed because he admits Irina's an expert, blah blah blah, but then he's all "I'm with Syd on this" and she's all "i have the best boyfriend EVER!" It makes me smile. Also, Syd is very selfish and Vaughn is very whipped. I lurve them anyway.

-Gaaah i love the spy family. Looooove. Jack referring to Irina as "Laura" (ooooh! oooh!!), the turkey story (hee. I seriously cannot keep a straight face when i hear them talking about Syd being a turkey.), Syd's ice cold "It was around the time i was told my mother had died. Everything else is a blur." GAH. They kick it hardcore.

-Oh man, i hate the rocket mission. It's so chintzy looking. Garrr. I hate the Siberia mission, too. They just... annoy me. Bad special effects, general stupidity and lameness. Those are the main reasons i always think of this as a less than stellar episode, even though it has quite a few good moments. Such as...

-WILL! AND! VAUGHN! MEETING! IN! THE! ELEVATOR! Ahem. Erm... it's my favorite scene. Like... ever. Okay, not EVER, but... well... it's a good scene and i like it a lot. The dialogue, the way they both act, it's all brilliant. Will's all confused, and Vaughn's all "it ain't no thang". Plus, OMG TEH HOTNESS!!!!1 There is nothing but love. Hee. "I just thought you'd be... older." Yeah Will, you mean "less hot". We know. Vaughn knowing who Francie is! Ha. Will realizing all the wrong numbers were for warehouse!sex! ... err, "meetings". The PICTURE FRAME!! Oh, Vaughn's reaction, Will's reaction, all the reactions, me squealing... sigh. Good stuff.

-Aww, poor Vaughn watching Syd and Will after the hypnotherapy thingie. I just wanna pet him and tell him "it's okay buddy, you'll be making out with her in a matter of episodes!" And ya know, that was about the most anvilicious triangle moment we ever got with them. I miss those days.

-JACK! AND! IRINA! I love how when she's doing push-ups and first hears the bars opening again, she looks sort of annoyed like "GOD why can't these people leave me alone for a little while?" Ha! It's funny. And... dude, they're mean to each other. It's AWESOME. I remember freaking out about "you haven't told her what you did to her" back then, cause i didn't want Jack to be eeeevil! It sucked. I was worried. Glad that's over with now. And do ya know? He doesn't look back when Irina says that! He just walks away! Vaughn could learn a thing or two from Jack. Well... i suppose he has, nowadays. Heeeee. I love me some Vaughn/Jack.

Dead Drop

-This cracks me up: "Vaughn, she killed your father." "Yes, thank you." What? Ha ha! No, it makes sense listening to it, it's just... funny. He says it in a great pissy way too. Hee. Okay, i'm too easily amused, i know. Also- yaay! Disagreement! Bitterness! Syd worrying about Vaughn! Vaughn being too selfless for his own good! It's excellent.

-Jack's session with Dr. Barnett is AWESOME. When he loses it and starts yelling, and has to check himself... it gives me shivers. It's so great. And then the voiceover part with Syd visiting Irina, Syd acting exactly the way Jack is worried about- it's so amazingly well-done. Such great family angst. I loooove it.

-Awww! "I'm your ally. Never question that." I have nothing of insight to say, it's just... awww. They argue all the time, and yet they always come back and make up and are even sweeter than before. It would be disgusting if i didn't love them so much.

-Guh, Vaughn running to Irina's cell to save Syd is so fucking cool. (and vaguely reminiscent of him running up to Devlin's office in The Confession. Vaughn runs to save lives! Well... Syd's life.) But yeah, love. And then he grows a pair and actually stares down Irina! RAWK. When this first aired, the very second this scene ended, as i was freaking out and doing my best "oooh SNAP", the fire alarm in my building went off, and i had to LEAVE. It sucked. I got back inside just as the commercial break ended, though, so it all worked out. Ahh, memories.

-Will! When he starts to explain his story to conspiracy girl, it's all "NOO! You MORON!" but then he actually does lie all clever-like. It's so cool. Also, dammit, i am distracted by the tight grey t-shirt. AHHHHH.

-Oh Jack. Jack, Jack, Jack. You could have blown up Sydney. That's bad. It's crazy that, in trying to protect her from Irina, he goes to such lengths that he becomes the greater danger. And yet... it's disturbingly sweet. In a "dude, you almost blew up your daughter" kind of way. The whole ending sequence of the episode is gorgeous. Irina getting taken away (the look on her face as they're cuffing her, combined with the music, and Jack watching... i get verklempt.), then Syd and Jack (the FIRST hug!) and knowing what he did... gah. It's so horribly depressing. BRILLIANT.
