My life has been really annoying lately thanks to moving (UUUGGGGGHHHHH) and being overly busy at work (UUUGGGGHHHHH) so instead of getting to dick around with fandom shit, all i've been able to do is go to sleep stressed and wake up stressed and take angry naps and be bad at life. SO THAT'S COOL I GUESS? Nope.
I've had a lot of vivid dreams recently, probably because of the aforementioned stress, and one of those dreams was about Tron 3 AGAIN. This brings the total number of Tron dreams i've had to: too many to be acceptable as a normal person in society. Anyway the dream consisted of only Encom corporate espionage! in that Quorra and Dillinger Jr. were sneaking around back rooms at Encom because suddenly Dillinger Jr. was a good guy and decided to turn against his father (meanwhile: Sam is nowhere to be seen, haha, uhhh?). So you can tell that my hopes for Tron 3 pretty much entirely consist of really wanting to see Olivia Wilde and Cillian Murphy all the time. ;______; AND IF THE RUMOR I'VE READ ABOUT CILLIAN MURPHY ONLY HAVING ANOTHER CAMEO IS TRUE: FUCK EVERYTHING
Anyway, new tv, what! How! Summer is over apparently! I hadn't been planning on watching any new shows at all, but since my schedule is fairly sparse i ended up giving Terra Nova a shot because duh sci-fi, and Prime Suspect mostly just because i thought the commercials for it were good even though i hate procedurals. Pretending it's a Fringe alternate universe because of Kirk Acevedo ;_____;
Terra Nova
It was okay, but i think i've gotten so picky about tv in my old age that i can no longer stand generic introductions/exposition. This should have been so epic! THE FUTURE! TIME TRAVEL! DINOSAURS!!!! But instead... they all just... walked through a Stargate... and had some hackneyed family drama. It seems to me if you're gonna do a huge blockbuster pilot episode, maybe you focus a little more on the bigger picture of THE SALVATION OF THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE instead of, say, a twenty-minute montage of a guy chopping vines. Whyyyy was there so much emphasis on boring teenagers, uggghhh, SHUT UP TEENAGERS. Moody teenage sons are the worrrssstttt. (surprise: that was the worst character on V too!) Skye became more interesting by the end (once the teenagers started shooting at dinosaurs they grew on me a lot, hahaha) but still. I was really pulling for the gawky kid who got his leg chewed on to actually get eaten, but noooooo. I kind of liked expository older daughter though. Really all the ladies have good potential, so that's something.
I don't know. The vibe i got was that this has the premise of a much more interesting show, but in execution it's formulaic as helllllll. It's like they took just another bland, cliched drama and added some special effects. None of the sci-fi elements had any weight. I HAVE SEEN JURASSIC PARK, AND THIS FIRST DINOSAUR MEETING AND GETTING TRAPPED IN A VEHICLE WERE NO JURASSIC PARK. Which is not to say i'll stop watching, but it hasn't grabbed me at all yet. :/
Breaking Bad
HGAKHFSKJFGSJLGFLKS i can't actually phrase this with the proper amount of superlatives so i'm just gonna say the tension of the last two episodes has been RIDICULOUS. Each one has had a killer ending (well, and even before that was Walt and Jesse's fight, and i don't think i've ever seen a tv fight that felt so dangerous and so consequential), but this episode especially had such an amazingly effective EVERYTHING CRASHING DOWN AT ONCE moment, like on the one hand i'm ready to puke from the stress but on the other hand i'm filled with joy at how wonderfully it's being executed. Walt's horrific Joker laugh in the background of shell-shocked Skyler walking down the hall as the phone rings: fucking NIGHTMARISH. I'm glad i've seen so many people talking about how it was like a horror movie, because it really was incredibly creepy. The way Skyler was the linchpin of that whole scene was amazing too, because on one end you've got Walt freaking out because he and his family are going to die, and then Skyler answers the phone bringing us to the other end of Marie freaking out because Hank is going to die. EVERYONE YOU KNOW IS FUCKED. And god that NOISE, that screaming sound of total devastation right before it cut to the credits -- it reminded me of The Dark Knight (also appropriate given Walt's laughter!) and like, i don't know man, that's some intense shit.
I know everybody says Breaking Bad has the best cold opens, but really it has the best final minutes. I don't think i've ever seen a show that goes out on so many high notes, and i say this as somebody who was ready to collapse in agony every time an episode of Lost ended. So much mind-blowing, game-changing shit! ALL THE TIME!
And god, last week, that was really the first time this season i had a true patented Breaking Bad Freakout™ with all the sweating and heart palpitations and clawing at my face. As soon as Mike got shot and then Jesse started shooting and it all fell to HIM to handle the situation, oh godddddddd JESSEEEEEEEE.
I honestly have no idea how this season is going to end, because obviously Walt can't die yet, but it's gotten to a point where he has run out of evasive maneuvers and Gus won't let him live, so the only real out is for Gus to die. BUT I LOVE GUS, the Gus-Mike-Jesse team is the besssst and if that group featured Skyler everything would be perfect. Walt has really been the worst this season, but then even last week he finally acknowledged that he's been the worst! (thanks, painkillers!) (i was actually confused as that scene was happening because i felt like it was a ploy on Walt's part. like he is so lacking in sympathetic human emotion anymore that i thought he was acting! WERE YOU IN A FUGUE STATE, YOU DICK? ...you guys, a lot of the time when i have done something stupid/been really out of it, in my head i make the excuse that i was in a fugue state and then i laugh at Walt forever. true story.) ANYWAY THE POINT I WAS STARTING TO GET AT is that it's really interesting how the show has managed to turn the entire audience against its main character. It's a very odd tug of war because narratively i want Walt to get out of whatever pickle he's in, but emotionally i hate him and want him to suffer.
Fringe
OH MY GOD I DIDN'T GET TO WATCH FRINGE WHEN IT AIRED, I HAD TO WAIT LIKE FOUR DAYS AND IN THE MEANTIME I WAS SO ANXIOUS ABOUT IT AND HAD JUST SEEN A THUMBNAIL OF A PROMO PICTURE ON A WEBSITE SO I DREAMT ABOUT LINCOLN LEE WEARING GLASSES AND SHOOTING GUNS. it was awesome
remember back when Lincoln was first introduced and i hated him for cockblocking alterna-Olivia/Charlie? Aw. It took me so long to really like that guy! And then he feelings-attacked me and now i care too much even though Blueverse Lincoln is sorta boring. SHEESH
BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
IS
BOTH OLIVIAS
ALHFKJSGLKHSLGJHLKSJGHKDGJSHGKJ
EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER WANTED IN LIFE
TWIRLING IN A CRYSTALLINE CASCADE OF RAINBOWS AND DEWDROPS FROM HEAVEN
That being said, this was... underwhelming. It was way too freak-of-the-week (i.e. not epic enough) for a season premiere, and the fact that these essentially aren't the characters we know made it feel so detached. And then the translucent people case didn't even get resolved? It's cute that it was sort of a pilot redux, but... not... cute... enough. It got so much more interesting when Olivia FINALLY brought Lincoln to the universe bridge, and then the friggin episode ended! ARGH.
I feel super cheated that we won't ever get Olivia meeting Blueverse Lincoln for the first time after knowing Redverse Lincoln. >:( And okay i really can't figure out the mechanics of the Olivia switch without Peter existing. If Olivia didn't recognize Lincoln then it stands to reason that she never lived in the other universe for a while, but if that's the case how did Altlivia replace her? All the universe switching revolved around Peter, and knowing Peter and chasing after Peter. WHAT THE EFF
That red light scan as they entered the universe bridge was so Alias. :D
NEEDS MORE ALTERNATES HANGING OUT WITH EACH OTHER. NEEDS MORE OLIVIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But less being flippant sassy jerks to each other. And ugh i'm so upset that the best Altlivia/Lincoln junk last season happened as a result of Altlivia's pregnancy, WHICH DIDN'T EVEN HAPPEN ANYMORE. I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHERE EVERYTHING STANDS NOW. I NEED TO KNOW THINGS ABOUT STUFF!!!!
Anyway. The next episode looks like more of a universe team-up (TEAM FRINGE DIVISION: WORLD POLICE!) and all i want is to see everybody again and catch up with how they're doing with gaping holes in their experiences and memories, u kno. REDVERSE COME BACK TO MEEEEEEE ;____; WHERE'S NINA, ARGH
