Despite my overwhelming excitement for Portal 2, i had to wait to play it until i got it for my birthday a month after it came out (which is still a pretty quick turnaround because i usually don't get around to playing video games until years after they're released, aww yea SUPER UP-TO-DATE WITH THINGS) ANYWAY IT WAS THE BEST
why
did the ending
make me cry
like a ridiculous person
oh god
over-invested in robot emotions
BUT SERIOUSLY
GLADOOOOOOS
CAROLINE ;___________;
I knew GLaDOS would never keep her Caroline personality, but oh my gosh she was so wonderful and supportive and CHELL'S FRIEND and somehow the ending was even sadder because she didn't go back to trying to kill Chell, she just let her go. I actually... literally... wept during the credits song. .............. THAT'S PRETTY EMBARRASSING. BUT I CARE SO MUCH ABOUT GLADOS AND CHELL and there is just so much amazing tragedy in GLaDOS's story, that she was an actual person put into a computer (which i did have some issues with just because i like GLaDOS being wholly a computer and developing emotions as a computer) and they made her a god but they modified her and tried to control her and drove her mad so she killed them all and she was murdered and had to relive her murder countless times before meeting her murderer again and becoming friends with her murderer and then having to let go of it all because it was too painful
And seriously this line in the song: "one day they woke me up, so I could live forever"
SOBBING
Also WHEATLEEEEYYYYY NOOOOOO. As soon as it got to switching out GLaDOS for Wheatley i knew i knew i knew it was a bad idea but agh noooooo Wheatley turning evil broke my heart. Granted i should have seen it coming because ain't it always the case that your guide is your buddy right up until they try to kill you. :( But THEY MADE HIM SO LOVABLE, THAT IS JUST CRUEL. ;_____; Although even after he was evil he was still hilarious. Stephen Merchant is the besssst. And then the post-credits scene where he regretted what he did while stranded in space -- THAT FUCKING MADE ME SAD TOO. WHEATLEEEEEEEEEYYY
WHY, WHEATLEY, WHY? But oh man that whole middle turning point of the story was mind-blowing. GLADOS BEING ON CHELL'S SIDE WHAT WHAT WHAT SO AMAZING. And aaaggghhhh the revelation that Wheatley is what they tried to use to dumb down GLaDOS... it was amazing. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING
I was pretty convinced that it was going to turn out that Chell was actually Caroline's daughter or something (what with Take Your Daughter to Work Day and all the mentions of adoption) but i like it much better with that not being the case. GLaDOS being Chell's mom would just be toooooo weeeeeeeeird, not least because... i... ship them.....................
SO EMOTIONAL OVER ROBOTS
All the music was so good too, oh man. There were some cues that made me think of Tron and yes i am still stuck on Tron/Portal okay, fuck you, ENCOM AND APERTURE SCIENCE ARE RELATED, Chell fights for the Users idk what stop judging meeeeee
"Goodbye, my only friend,
Oh, did you think I meant you?
That would be funny if it weren’t so sad"

So i'm reading A Game of Thrones, right, and it seems like practically every other chapter has a moment that makes me get sort of weepy. Just, like, little emotional beats that have more depth in prose or that simply didn't make the cut/weren't as developed on the show. There is also a surprising amount of things that i picture differently than they appeared on the show, probably because you get more specific descriptors of places/in-between scenes so you get a better overall map in your head. Like, i don't know, with Harry Potter for example, i have a whole layout of Hogwarts in my mind that wasn't changed at all by the movies because the movies still only give a disjointed/abstract view of the castle as a whole. DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE. It's just that imagery is really important to me when i'm reading stuff and my mind always conjures up pictures that fit the description yet also fit how i want them to look.
Also in light of the fact that i'm super weird and always synthesize all of my interests into crossovers, the current thought i've been having is A Song of Ice and Fire/His Dark Materials! And i mean obvs HDM is great because you can conceivably cross it over with LITERALLY ANYTHING, but right now i'm just thinking that armored polar bears could go and live north of the Wall and BAM no more white walkers, and mostly i want Lyra and Arya to meet because !!!!!!! LYRA AND ARYA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND i even weirdly thought of ASOIAF/Avatar, because oh my gosh Toph and Arya (CAN YOU IMAGINE THEM TRAINING TOGETHER) and Katara and Sansa, DANY IS A FIREBENDER, Bran could meet Teo and the Mechanist from the Northern Air Temple and get a wheelchair glider made for himself! Sandor Clegane is Zuko.
