yowza. i really need to keep up with connie and melanie. they be postin' lj entries like they on crizzack! wow sorry. how am i this delirious at 4pm sitting at my desk at work?
i've been thinking about how badly i need to change my lj photo, but i'm just too lazy/don't care enough to do it. not only do i have that eerie grin on my face but i also look like i am 12.
anyhow, things have been pretty busy lately. i feel like every weekend is jam-packed with stuff to do and i'm pooped come sunday night. melanie's birthday last weekend was so much fun. it was my first time (i think?) singing faith "in the style of" limp bizkit, and i never enjoyed a karaoke song more! i think i actually cried. jameson is hysterical and his rap skillz are quite impressive. sorry i snuck out early to go to aramis's good-bye party! but i did wanna say farewell since he'll be in L.A. indefinitely. which, btw, i'm super-excited about because it means i can go to L.A. and have somewhere to stay and have someone fun/crazy to hang out with. i love traveling with olish and all, but it's always nice to have other peeps to hang out with when you're on vacation. especially since it means i can travel hotel-expense free! yea, i'm a cheap bastard like that.
so it was pretty funny because olish's friend kim has a boyfriend who recognized me from a Yelp review (hi, connie!!) about Echiban sushi! how funny is that? he yelled at me because he said my review tricked him into thinking the sushi was going to be amazing when in fact it was deplorable. haha! i mean, it's definitely not grade-A sushi but maybe i was just so excited about having a sushi place in ridgewood where the sushi didn't taste like sewage that i exaggerated about the quality of the food in the review. i need to go back and read it after i'm done, actually!
(i have a secret! i spelled "eerie" as "eery" above and just went back and fixed it! what's wrong with me??! i am a disgrace to spelling afficionados/copy editors worldwide.)
then last weekend on saturday i saw the deftones, who were fucking AWESOME! although it was more like a tattoo convention than a concert at some points. haha. some lame-ass skinny kid with gross tattoos came up to me and asked me where i got "my work" done and proceeded to try and hit on me and asked me who i was there to see? and i was like, uhh, deftones? who ever comes to see the opening act(s)? and he gave me a high-five. then i told him i had a boyfriend and he flew outta there like a caged bird let free. weirdo! the show was great, especially because i drank a homemade cocktail in a water bottle on the way there (much to olish's disapproval--what a loser!) and then had a drink there. so by the time they went on i was cheering and screaming and moving to the beat like no one's business. olish had a great time laughing at my drunken antics, and i had a great time feeling nostalgia for many of the songs that brought me right back to high school. i guess i'm just like my parents and love living in the past!
so for the encore, chino came out carrying the mexican flag and repped his homeland for 3 songs carrying the flag on his back. i thought of connie the whole time and how she would have been excited! haha. i guess i only know 1 mexican. ps: chino was looking mighty fine, too. i thought he was gonna be as big as a hot-air balloon but in fact, he looked rather svelte. ok, not really, but he's hot.
this weekend i went by my parents' house and visited my dad for father's day. my grandfather was also there and i met my new 6-week old cousin. as much as i'm not a big fan of babies, she's a cutie! she has the same color hair and eyes as me (and my uncle). so excited! there are very few of us light-haired/-eyed wonders on my dad's side. especially surprising since her mom has dark hair & eyes. anyway, she was sleeping most of the time and just being a baby. am i that cold-hearted that i really can't get close to a little infant? i didn't even have an urge to like, hold her or anything. i just thought it was cool that she was so teeny. i feel like once she turns 7 or 8 it'll be way cooler and i can talk to her about normal stuff and like, do her hair. haha.
anyway, my grandfather was holding the baby and he comes over to me and is like, "soon i want to see this from you!" and i was like oh my, no way! why are italians so caught up in getting married and having babies? my grandparents have the most f'ed up marriage ever and they're always urging me and my cousins to get married. i don't understand it. my mom also said that she wants to have a "mother-daughter night" and do something fun, to which I replied, "i feel like you have an alterior motive." haha. seriously, it's not like my mom to say something like that. she just said that she's so burned out from the daycare and dealing with everyday stuff, she wants to do something fun with me. i suggested a bar, but she said that beer makes her sleepy. i'm so intent on getting my mom drunk! i really need to see it before i die. also, i'd like to show her my tattoos at some point, so i figure that the easiest way to do it is if we're both wasted. but i doubt that's ever gonna happen.
since it's super-slow at work, i'm just gonna recap my whole entire weekend. i also went out with joanna on saturday to see this band called the heartless bastards with her roommate and roommate's hipster friends. the band was pretty cool, the lead singer had a really nice voice that she distorted in a yeah yeah yeahs/regina spektor kinda way...but without sounding like either one. it was fun, despite some weird older filipino-looking man in a white suit asking if he could lick my arm--and upon me saying "no, gross," trying to lick it anyway. i was so confused/creeped out. then he told joanna her nose ring was gorgeous. weirdo. what's up with creepy guys at shows? oh, and prior to the show, we had some old-school fun at true blue/rosa's pizza/glen lo. 2001, is that you?
friday night was kew forest posse night with belma and sam. we had some drinks at their apartment, then went to cobblestone's upon my insistance because i really wanted to play darts and request some awesome music on their download jukebox. unfortunately some morons were sitting in front of the dartboard and i couldn't play! i saw my one neighborhood friend, chris, we shot the shit, and then soon left and went to the irish cottage. we had an awesome time up until the bartender presented sam with the bill for her tab and it was $90--which was TOTALLY not right, since we'd only ordered 2 things of food and barely had any drinks after i got the first round. turns out he had charged us for the shots he poured us x2--we didn't even ask for shots, and i even said "no, thanks," and he poured me one anyway!!--and the shots for these other two people in the bar. it's a complicated story, but basically he charged us for drinks we didn't ask for. it was so lame. and me and belma yelled at him and we were like, give sam some money back--so he took out like $40-50 from the cash thing and gave it to her, buti think she was drunk and letting her pride get in the way and was just like "if you believe you deserve this money, just keep it." we tried to rationalize with her and tell her that he STOLE her money, but whatevs. he was dumb. never going back there again!
it's so beautiful outside. for my lunch break i took the train to astor place, had mamouns and went to the st. mark's bookstore. i think i might go back there after work and see how to go about getting a chapbook sold there. i remember my poetry teacher telling us that we should go there with self-published chapbooks on consignment (meaning they just pay for what's sold, or something). i've been meaning to do it for so long, but just haven't gotten around to it. also, i'm excited to announce that the mamoun's on st. mark's now sells fresh mango juice for $1!! i didn't think it would exactly go well with my falafel earlier, but it sounds delicious. maybe i'll go there after work again too. i will just never stop loving the atmosphere in the village on a summer afternoon/evening.
ok, time to peace out. see you later, loyal readers!
