50 and counting...

May 02, 2007 08:30

Bex counted last night and has about 24, I haven't counted for a few days, but last count was 26...

Bloody itchy!

Bex has resorted to self harm now too to get rid of them, i was silently harming before her but she just didnt realise!

Pray for a curse on sandflies and mosquitoes!  Grrr!

And a full ni9ghts sleep without their painful disturbances!

We saw a sea lion!  we saw him on our little boat trip around milford sound which was fabulous!  no penguins tho, they'd all moved out for winter! bit too chilly even for little penguins in milford!  After alot of um-ing and ah-ing over whether the boat ride was worth the 50$ each we decided that we would, after all its not that often you are able to go around a glacier formed lake/fiord in a little boat at 9.30 in the morning!! (unless you're norwegian). The views were spectacular, mile high mountains, hanging valleys, small lagoons, waterfalls, and only a dozen people on the boat so we had the front viewing platform to ourselves for most of the trip!!

After all that excitement we drove back to Te Anau (where we seemed to have spent an aweful lot of time) to do some washing and to relax a little bit with a cuppa (and secretly charge the camera).

The next plan of attack was to head to Invercargill which is possibly one of the ugliest cities in the world (though we didn't stay too long to find out about its nice bits - it did have a nice park though!) however after a late night drive to get there we thought we needed to make the most of it so we found SPLASH PALACE, and spent nearly 3 hours dipping in and out of the lane pools, hot pool, aquajogging, and the floome!! it was so nice to relax and be near water, but not freezing your bottom of in the process!
That evening (saturday) we headed out to Bluff - where yoyu would normally get the ferry to Stuart Island, but we're poor. it was pretty, and the campsite was a bargain and fabulous so lots of nice food, beer, and a good sunny view to wake up to!!!

Our Drive through the Catlins, took us 3 days and past yellow-eyed penguins, hector dolphins, yet more seals and sea lions, and albatrosses, and lots of other cute little birds. More waterfalls than you can shake a stick at, slope point the most southerly point on the mainland, fantastic seas and sands, and paua shells (emily's new addiction). All in all despite the rain on the last two days, (beautiful warm sun on sunday) it was all rather beautiful!

Brought back down to earth with a bang on entering Dunedin. Not a bad city at all, in fact quite nice in places, but there are people, and cars and things that bug us, so we're not here for long.
Just long enough to catch up with internet, but a few postcards and find a quiet little hill road out on the penisula to sleep last night, after driving to see the albatross.

Happy Birthday to Si (Stubbs!) we've foynd a decent i/net connection now so will send you the attachment!

We're heading up north now, and hopefull we'll manage to get rid of Bex's cough and splutter! (we went to the pharmacist y'day and he told us to not go tramping and to drink Brondecon Expectorant for Bronchitis- smellys yummy!)
